"Finally, there is dealing from the Australian embassy and it presents to the court that it will offer the necessary papers related to Khayyat's work. But it needs time – that is why the trial has been postponed until 30 April. In the meantime, we asked for the release of Amer Khayyat and we hope that he is tried while released from outside when the documents all arrive from Australia, which we are certain prove that he has no relation or had no knowledge of the attempts to blow up the plane."

STORYLINE:
An Australian man appeared at a military court in Beirut on Wednesday in connection with an alleged plot to bring down an Emirati passenger plane.
Amer Khayyat is standing trial for an alleged plot to blow up an Etihad Airways flight that was scheduled to take off from Sydney in July, 2017.
The plane was bound for the United Arab Emirates' capital, Abu Dhabi
Joceline Adib al-Rai, Khayyat's lawyer, told The Associated Press that she hopes the Australian embassy will offer the necessary papers related to Khayyat's work in the country.
Lebanese authorities say Khayyat and three of his brothers - including two now in detention in Australia - had planned to blow up the plane carrying 400 passengers with bombs hidden inside a Barbie doll and a meat grinder.
Khayyat, an Australian-Lebanese dual citizen, rejects the charges and says he had no idea he was carrying a bomb. He also says he only heard about the plot weeks after arriving in Lebanon upon discovering his brothers had been arresteed in Australia.
Al-Rai said the trial was adjourned until 30 April.
