Hope: "This show is full of feminist icons, it is full of like, a tonne of women who are amazing and flawed and inspiring but also questionable in their morals. Catherine, we don't know if she's the goodie or the baddie, if she is manipulating or if she's being manipulated, she's proud but also vulnerable, she is all the things that can encompass a real woman."
Parkes: "A real woman, yeah."

Levi-John: "Over to me. Yeah, I think it's the story of the otherness really isn't it? So throughout time, you know, especially as a woman of color, a black woman, we haven't been included in these sorts of stories and it's really interesting to see that we also existed. Number one. So, I think that's the number one thing, you know? We were around and our stories need to be told essentially."
Carmichael: "I think it's that thing isn't it that history is told by those in charge. So, for a long time it does feel like we've been hearing a lot of white male perspectives and I think this is really cool because it's exploring these real life characters that really were there. We've got, you know, there's lots of stuff to read about the black people in Tudor England. And finally we are getting to see them in a drama on screen and also see, you know, they're women and seeing their point of view in these bits of history that we know quite a lot about, but probably from the point of view of Henry the VIII. Not Catherine."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Nadia Parkes and Charlotte Hope, actresses:
Parkes: "I watched a lot of Penelope Cruz."
Hope: "Yeah. I watched a lot of Cruz and then they told me that Catherine couldn't be that sexy. I'd be like, 'What do you mean? She is, you mean you need her to be more pious?' So then I started listening to a ballet dancer called Tamara Rojo who was a bit more, straight down the line. Yeah. It was a lot of YouTube videos."
Parkes: "A lot of YouTube videos, a lot of Pedro Almodovar films. Yeah. Actually, going back to my Spanish A level notes as well. Yeah, I did that a lot."
Hope: "I didn't find that very helpful because sometimes I like I said the line in Spanish first try and get me into the right headspace. But it's actually a very different thing speaking Spanish and doing a Spanish accent. They're like, I never learned at school... Yeah, how to, maybe I should have. Maybe that's where I was going wrong."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Charlotte Hope, actress:
"They let us film between five o'clock in the morning and to be out by 8:00 a.m, so yeah. So we had like a crazy cool time and then we were... But it meant that we were in the Alhambra first thing in the morning as the sun was coming up and there's really nothing more magical than three actresses doing the most exciting job of their careers in period costume in the Alhambra first thing in the morning. It was one of those, it was a real pinch me moment. And we were right at the beginning of the shoot. So, it was all all of this potential and excitement was in front of us. And I just remember standing in that garden knowing that Catherine had stood there however many years before and just thinking how incredible that was."

Levi-John: "I just live in a little bubble so it's great, there are snacks in here, live music - it's great. I don't really, but she's having the baby soon I think."
Carmichael: "Must be soon right."
Levi-John: "I'm excited for her, I'm really happy for her."
Carmichael: "I feel like she'd really enjoy our show a lot. It would be great."
Levi-John: "Can you imagine if she watched it?"
Carmichael: "If she could just send us a text."
Levi-John: "Just be like, 'Yeah we've watched it,' Great, she's watched it, she's seen it."
(Reporter: "Yes because it's like kick arse women changing history.")

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Charlotte Hope, actress - on comparing this role to her work on "Game of Thrones":
"I mean 'Game of Thrones' was amazing. Obviously, like it was. That was an incredible experience. And I love Miranda. I have a lot of time for her but I prefer Catherine. You know, Catherine I got to go to work and play a character all day, every day for six months and it doesn't get any better than that."

STORYLINE:
'THE SPANISH PRINCESS' CAST DISCUSSES FEMINIST ICONS AND WHITEWASHING InWESTERN HISTORY
"The Spanish Princess" is a female-centric look at the story of King Henry VIII and his wife Catherine of Aragon - told from Catherine's perspective.
Charlotte Hope, who plays Henry's first wife in the eight part mini-series, believes this gives the show a feminist slant.
"This show is full of feminist icons, it is full of like, a tonne of women who are amazing and flawed and inspiring but also questionable in their morals. Catherine, we don't know if she's the goodie or the baddie, if she is manipulating or if she's being manipulated, she's proud but also vulnerable, she is all the things that can encompass a real woman."
The show also stars Laura Carmichael of "Downton Abbey" fame and Stephanie Levi-John, who plays Catherine's lady in waiting.
Levi-John enthused about the diverse narrative of the series.
"Throughout time, you know, especially as a woman of color, a black woman, we haven't been included in these sorts of stories and it's really interesting to see that we also existed. Number one. So, I think that's the number one thing, you know? We were around and our stories need to be told essentially."
Carmichael agreed, adding.
"We've been hearing a lot of white male perspectives and I think this is really cool because it's exploring these real life characters that really were there."
"The Spanish Princess" follows on from "The White Princess" and is based on two novels by Philippa Gregory. Part of the show was shot in the Alhambra palace in Granada, an experience that Hope described as a real "pinch me moment."
"I just remember standing in that garden knowing that Catherine had stood there however many years before and just thinking how amazing, how incredible that was," she added.
And, as the world waits with baited breath for the arrival of baby Sussex, Stephanie Levi-John and Laura Carmichael joke that they hope the current royal family will watch their show.
"If (Meghan) could just send us a text," joked Carmichael
"Just be like, 'Yeah we've watched it.' Great, she's watched it, she's seen it," added Levi-John.
"The Spanish Princess" begins airing on STARZPLAY on 5 May.
