4. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
"I had a talk with Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu this morning and I heard the President (Reuven Rivlin) this morning and I will give them my answer when I have better knowledge on the file, on the basis, I totally understand the arguments that have risen. We also need to be sure that from a procedure point of view, that we can answer properly, but the request what very clearly expressed this morning by Prime Minister Netanyahu and during the press conference with President Rivlin and so I will get back to it once I've worked on this, I won't give you an answer here at the door. In any case I heard there was a very strong request from Israel's part and also there was an analysis made that it wasn't faithful to the initial mandate, so I need to study that and then see how to respond."

6. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
"The three big religion of the book live here today, through places that are marked by their own history and that are often the heart of their own history and with times where they could live together, this city is a palimpsest of history that succeeded one another and were sometimes shaken and I think that the role of France, by its secularism that is not the negation of the religion, but the capacity to look everyone in the eye and help them live together, it's also a way of saying that to recognise each other, recognise the part of each one of us with respect is maybe a step toward the capacity to live together in peace."
7. Macron talking to the press
STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron lost his temper with Israeli security agents during a visit to the French Roman Catholic Church of Sainte Anne in Jerusalem's Old City on Wednesday.
It appeared security wanted to enter the church, but Macron protested with "You know better. Everybody knows the rules." The church is considered French territory.
The altercation echoed a similar incident involving late President Jacques Chirac during a visit to the Old City in 1996, when Israeli soldiers blocked Palestinian residents and foreign press from approaching him.
Macron also spoke to the press about Israel's request to criticise the International Criminal Court, saying only that he would study the matter.
Macron's response dealt a setback to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hopes for a strong backlash against the ICC by world leaders gathering in Jerusalem for a memorial service marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp.
The court's chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, said last month that there was a "reasonable basis" to open a war crimes probe into Israeli military actions in Gaza as well as settlement construction in the West Bank. She has asked the court to determine whether she has territorial jurisdiction before proceeding with the case.
Macron met separately with Netanyahu and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.
