Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has come to Japan for the G20 Summit, met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Thursday in Osaka, Japan.
Xi said China is willing to work together with South Korea, treating each other with sincerity and realizing win-win in cooperation so as to push forward the bilateral relations and make contributions to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the region as a whole.
Xi said that the two sides should speed up the progress of the second phase of the China-Korea free trade agreement negotiations and strengthen coordination within the multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations and the G20, in jointly opposing protectionism and supporting multilateralism and the system of free trade and the building of an open world economy.
Moon said South Korea is willing to work together with China in enhancing the high-level exchanges, promoting dialogue and cooperation in various fields, accelerating the second phase of the bilateral free trade agreement negotiations, and bringing the bilateral relations up to a new level.
Moon promised to work together with China in the effort of safeguarding multilateralism, free trade and an open world economy.
The two heads of state also exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsula.
Xi told Moon that he had an in-depth exchange of views with Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un on bilateral relations and the Korean Peninsula situation during his state visit to DPRK last week and both agreed that maintaining dialogue has helped easing the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and political settlement still remains the priority option for relevant parties.
Xi said China supports a new round of meeting between leaders of the DPRK and the United States.
Moon said Xi's state visit to the DPRK is an important contribution to advancing dialogue on the Korean Peninsula and to maintaining peace and stability there.
