"All of us have to work together to promote the cause of peace progress and prosperity. The 'one belt one road' is a great initiative launched by China. Pakistan is one of the pilot countries. This is making a material difference in the economy and growth of Pakistan. We have at least 50 nations represented in this room, from all over the world and I think they are now finding out that China can be a very good friend and ally in promoting growth, promoting prosperity in their countries. So in Pakistan, 'one belt one road' projects are already being implemented, the Gwadar port, the various highways and many other things are coming in the pipeline. The fourth Understanding China Conference opened Saturday in Guangzhou, bringing in-depth discussions around the theme of "New Globalization and China's New Round of Reform and Opening-Up."
About 600 politicians, strategists, scholars, entrepreneurs from 17 countries and regions, as well as representatives of international organizations, participated in the two-day event in Guangzhou City, capital of south China's economic powerhouse Guangdong Province, according to the organizing committee.
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the conference on Saturday.
In his letter, Xi said that creating a better life is a common aspiration of people around the world. As a contributor to and a beneficiary of economic globalization, China will remain steadfast in pursuing the path of peaceful development and an opening-up strategy of mutual benefit to continue adding impetus to an open world economy, Xi said.
China will work with other countries to promote economic globalization and make it more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all, he said.
Many attendees think Xi's letter gives a strong signal of China's determination to continue to open up.
"President Xi Jinping was kind enough to receive us yesterday in Beijing and now he sends this important letter. Shaukat Aziz, former Pakistani prime minster, also attended the conference and he thinks the conference offers the world a better platform to understand China, which is a reliable partner in promoting growth.

Launched in 2013, the Understanding China Conference has served as a platform for the world to understand China's development strategies.
