రజనీకాంత్ను 2019 ఏడాదికిగానూ ఈ అవార్డుకు ఎంపిక చేసింది కేంద్రం. ఈ విషయాన్ని కేంద్ర మంత్రి ప్రకాశ్ జావడేకర్ మార్చిలోనే ప్రకటించారు. నటుడిగా, నిర్మాతగా, స్క్రీన్‌ప్లే రచయితగా సినీరంగానికి రజనీకాంత్ చేసిన విశిష్ఠ సేవలకుగానూ ఈ అవార్డుకు ఎంపిక చేశారు.
గత నాలుగు దశాబ్దాలుగా సినీ పరిశ్రమకు రజనీకాంత్ చేస్తున్న సేవలు గుర్తించిన కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం.. ఆయనను ఈ పురస్కారంతో గౌరవించింది. ఉప రాష్ట్రపతి వెంకయ్యనాయుడు ఆయనకు అవార్డును అందజేశారు. ఒకే ఏడాదిలో రజనీకాంత్, ఆయన అల్లుడు ధనుశ్.. అవార్డులు అందుకోవడం పట్ల సూపర్స్టార్ అభిమానులు హర్షం వ్యక్తం చేశారు.
