2. SOUNDBITE (English) Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister:
"(It's) Great to be to be here in Northern Ireland and clearly the people in Northern Ireland have been without a government, without Stormont, for two years and six months so my prime focus this morning is to do everything I can to help that get up and running again because I think that's profoundly in the interests of people here, all the citizens here in Northern Ireland. And I'll be helping the parties in any way I can to get that going and over the line. And I expect Brexit may come up a little bit, I don't rule that out and I think the crucial thing to stress is that I obviously attach huge importance to the letter, the spirit of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement and we'll be insisting on that. Other than that it's just fantastic to be here."
(Reporter question: How impartial can you be prime minister given that you've already dined with the DUP (Democratic Unionist Party)?)
"It's all there in the Good Friday Agreement we believe in complete impartiality and that's what we're going to observe. But the crucial thing is to get this Stormont government up and running again. Thank you."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Arlene Foster, Democratic Unionist Party leader:
"The confidence and supply agreement continues with the Conservative Party (UK ruling party) and the Democratic Unionist Party. It's an agreement between the two parties, it's not an agreement which is dependent on who leads the (Conservative) party, so it was never a case of if (former UK prime minister) Theresa May goes the confidence and supply agreement finishes. It continues and we will review the confidence and supply agreement at the end of this parliamentary term to see how it has been implemented and how we can renew it in the next parliamentary term."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Arlene Foster, Democratic Unionist Party leader:
"We very much hope that our new prime minister will deal with the issue, he will get across to those in Europe and particularly in Dublin the fact that they cannot break up the United Kingdom, because essentially that's what the backstop was doing. It was breaking Northern Ireland away both in economic terms and indeed in constitutional terms, which of course runs completely contrary to the Belfast Agreement and the principle of consent which says that for as long as the people of Northern Ireland wish to remain within the United Kingdom they should do so. And the backstop was running a coach and horses through that and therefore it is very important that the backstop goes."

STORYLINE:
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday that Brexit "may come up" during talks with Northern Irish political leaders as he continued his tour of the UK as its new leader.
Johnson said his priority in Wednesday's talks was working towards restoring Northern Ireland's devolved government, which has been inactive for more than two years.
He had met with Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Arlene Foster on Tuesday night to discuss issues including the ongoing 'confidence and supply agreement' between the DUP and the ruling Conservative Party allowing them to reach a majority in the UK Parliament.
Foster said the agreement was still in place despite Johnson replacing former UK prime minister Theresa May this month.
May's Brexit divorce deal with the European Union failed to gain the support of the DUP due to its inclusion of the so-called Northern Irish 'backstop' designed to avoid a hard border with Ireland.
Foster said she hoped Johnson would be able to resolve the issue as the backstop would mean Northern Ireland was being treated differently "in economic terms and in constitutional terms" than the rest of the UK.
