7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack Trow, Associate Artist, on the exhibition:
"Well here is the installation of "All of the People in All the World" and in this installation there are many exhibits, all of which are piles of rice and each pile of rice equals a human statistic in so far as one grain of rice represents one person."
8. Mid of rice piles, pull out
9. Pull out of rice pile symbolizing "Refugees in the World"
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Jack Trow, Associate Artist - on the link between the U.K. and the U.S.:
"Yes it is, we have tried to filter quite a lot of our statistics and the decisions we've made about the statistics through comparing the U.S. and the U.K., trying to be critical a little bit but not overly critical, you know, the zeitgeist is perhaps a little bit more divided than it has been in the past, so we are trying to show a balanced comparison as best we can. We are also, so we have got some statistics that are about local politics, international politics, we have some statistics that are about American business and British business. There's all sorts of different ways in which that is manifested and right behind me there's some statistics about where in the world, at the moment where in the world, U.S. troops are based and we are hoping to augment that with where in the world U.K. troops are based, but also U.N. troops. So there is a sort of conflict but also a sort of peace-keeping narrative that can be seen across the board there."

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Jack Trow, Associate Artist - on his day to day workflow:
"Yes so the show is never really finished so we are always adding to it. So, our bread and butter processes are to find new statistics to add to the show but of course there's a lot of statistics here that we have to maintain, so there's a little bit of tidying up. Some grains might escape here and there so we'll just coax them back onto the paper. It has been known that we've come into work one morning to find that there are five Beatles not four, so we, I'm afraid, we recreate the moment that Ringo replaces whichever member of The Beatles it was Hamburg, I can't remember that story, but we recreate that moment in rice form. Yeah, so there's lots of maintaince to be done, new statistics to be researched but also conversations to be had with audiences as they look around."

14. SOUNDBITE (English) Jack Trow, Associate Artist - on the idea of food waste:
(Reporter: "There's quite a lot of depressing stats there.")
"Yeah. But it does really sort of challenge those perceptions, you know, we do get challenged sometimes about wasting food or at least delaying food in the food chain and actually, on closer analysis, what we understand by working with this material is that the issue isn't about wasting food, it's about distribution of wealth and about... yeah, people aren't going hungry because we are making this show, people are going hungry because they don't have access to the global supply of food."

STORYLINE:
ART INSTALLATION 'OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN ALL THE WORLD' COMES TO LONDON AND SHOWS GLOBAL STATISTICS IN A UNIQUE WAY
Art group Stan's Cafe are attempting to make statistics more visually palatable.
Their latest exhibition in London uses rice to represent people in the world - and then puts them in a context via piles of the food stuff.
For example, there is a pile of rice symbolizing the people who voted to leave the European Union set against those who didn't vote to leave. There is a pile of rice symbolizing the amount of refugees in the world. There's another representing people currently living below a high tide line which contrasts an exhibit showing the number of people killed in floods in Jakarta earlier this year.
The gallery space is an old Royal Mail sorting office, a stone's throw from the new American Embassy in London. Associate artist Jack Trow said this proximity played into some of the stats used in the exhibition.
"We have tried to filter quite a lot of our statistics and the decisions we've made about the statistics through comparing the U.S. and the U.K., trying to be critical a little bit but not overly critical. You know, the zeitgeist is probably a little bit more divided than it has been in the past so we are trying to show a balanced comparison as best we can," he said.
Trow said his day-to-day tasks include talking to guests at the gallery but also making sure that the exhibition stays in shape.
"It has been known that we have come into work one morning and found that there are five Beatles, not four," he smiled.
When the exhibition is over, the rice will go back into the food chain - so no resources are lost.
"We do get challenged sometimes about wasting food or at least delaying food in the food chain and actually, on closer analysis, what we understand by working with this material is that the issue isn't about wasting food, it's about distribution of wealth and about... yeah, people aren't going hungry because we are making this show, people are going hungry because they don't have access to the global supply of food."
"Of All The People In All The World" by Stan's Cafe runs from 15 – 26 January 2020 at Former Royal Mail Delivery Office, Malthouse Road, Nine Elms, London SW8 5DD.
