6. SOUNDBITE (English) Richard Ross, Philadelphia Police Commissioner
"There's not so much I can tell you about what's going on inside of that property, save for the fact that even when I was on scene he fired multiple rounds, many of which struck the SWAT truck and buildings across the street, and that's long after, I got there long after it had started. So he continued to fire. It is a grave concern to us but we are trying to communicate to him that we want him out safely, even going as far as telling him that the officers are going to be OK and that there's nothing that we can't work through. But right now we're not successful."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Mayor Jim Kenney, (D) Philadelphia
"Obviously it was a very traumatic experience for them. I was talking to one of the officers who had the graze wound to the head, and he had two little boys that look like they were 9 or 10 years old, 8 or 9 years old, and kept on thinking about how their lives would have changed just with a little bit more difference in space. And our concern right now is for them and for their families, and we'll sort out all the other stuff once the scene has been resolved over at where the shooting took place. And we're just thankful. I'm a little angry about someone having all that weaponry and all that firepower but we'll get to that another day. It's all about the officers and the families right now. God bless them and God save them all. Thank you."

STORYLINE:
At least one gunman opened fire on police Wednesday as they were serving a drug warrant in Philadelphia , wounding six officers and triggering a standoff that extended into the evening, including a potential hostage situation, authorities said.
Two other officers were still trapped inside the house more than four hours after the shooting broke out, as other officers tried to talk down the shooter and sporadically took fire from him.
None of the officers' injuries was considered life-threatening and they were being treated at hospitals, police said.
Dramatic audio was released of calls between police and their control centre, amid the sound of shots being fired.
The shooting began around 4:30 p.m. as officers went to a home in north Philadelphia to serve a narcotics warrant, said Police Commissioner Richard Ross. Shots were still being fired three hours later, police said, and officers returned fire.
Police were imploring the gunman to surrender, calling him on the phone several times and using a loudspeaker to communicate, Ross said.
"We are trying to communicate to him that we want him out safely, even going as far as telling him that the officers are going to be OK and that there's nothing that we can't work through. But right now we're not successful." Ross said.
The situation was exacerbated by the apparent presence of officers inside the house with the gunman. Ross said police were trying to resolve a "potential hostage situation" without elaborating.
Police tried to push crowds of onlookers and residents back from the scene. In police radio broadcasts, officers could be heard calling for backup as reports of officers getting shot poured in.
Dozens of officers on foot lined the streets. Others were in cars and some on horses.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said its agents responded to the scene to assist Philadelphia police.
President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr were briefed on the shooting, officials said.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said he was thankful that officers' injuries weren't life-threatening.
