New Zealand police started their investigation in Dunedin, a city in the south eastern coast of the country on Saturday, where the suspected gunman who shot dead 49 people was living.
Police also deployed a bomb disposal robot as two improvised explosive devices were found in a suspect's car.
The area was evacuated as a precaution, according to police.
At least 49 people were shot to death at two mosques.
Authorities say most if not all were killed by an immigrant-hating white supremacist.
