French car park operator Indigo has launched a joint venture with China's Sunsea Parking as it aims to motor its way into the available spaces in the world's largest automobile market of China.
During French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to China earlier this week, French and Chinese companies signed contracts worth over 13 billion euros (over 14.3 billion U.S. dollars), in the fields of food, agriculture, luxury products, aeronautics, energy, and even in car parking services.
The Paris-based Indigo, which is a world leader in car parks and runs facilities in over 160 cities worldwide, signed a partnership with the Chinese company SunSea.
Benjamin Voron, Indigo's head of communications returned to Paris after a visit to the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, a six-day expo which will conclude on Sunday.
"The second CIIE is impressive by the number of companies and countries present, and also by the great number of innovations and the energy of this expo and of China, which is of course an enormous country and a very important market," he said.
Indigo is active in 11 countries and manages more than 2.3 million parking spaces across 5,000 car parks. Its partnership with Seasun opens up the potentially huge Chinese market.
"There are half as many parking spaces per car in China as there are in Europe. So mobility and parking needs are phenomenal. We want to be active on that market with our partner Sunsea. They already know the market, know the world of parking, and we bring in our know-how on street parking or underground car parks, but also our experience with local concessions," he said.

First with on-street parking, to control and regulate parking. Of course we are very eager to sign contracts with other Chinese cities," he added.
Voron added that Indigo is optimistic about the expansion of its activities in China.
"The opportunities are there, the market is exceptional. We have a know-how as a global leader. We have an ideal partner. Now we just need to accompany cities and drivers to carry out tomorrow's strategy," he said.
