"Well I, you know, I think we were really vindicated in that. And because that was PETA that was coming forward, and they, and it was somebody who was not a crew member who showed up on a closed set, took a little bit of video and then edited the video to make it look like a dog was being abused where there was no dog being abused. A dog had been trained to do what he done supposedly where he was being lifted up by his neck. He was actually standing on a platform underneath the water. We had two divers underneath the water, you know, supposedly when he was in distress and that moment he supposedly is underwater and in distress where he cuts the frame. He didn't bother, because I made Universal show me all the film. And the dog jumps out, gets out of the water, runs to the other side and jumps back in again, because he loves it so much."

Michon: "Nothing happened. However, I think that some good things came from it because we now had two animal-welfare agencies on the set and I think that's the kind of safeguards that films need. So, in the end, lemonade out of those lemons. And I think that all the animals working in Hollywood will be safer because of it."
Cameron: "Very few people on the set who can call, 'Cut.' And one of them was the people that were there to protect the animals. That was the most important thing. There was signage. It was stressed at every meeting and everybody understood what we were there to do."

'DOG'S JOURNEY' STAR DENNIS QUAID SAYS PRODUCERS WERE 'VINDICATED' FOLLOWING ACCUSATIONS OF ANIMAL ABUSE ON PREQUEL
Accusations of dog abuse on the set of the 2018 family film hit "A Dog's Purpose" were proven bogus.
But that didn't stop producers from reacting to them.
"Nothing happened," said Cathryn Michon, a co-screenwriter on both "Purpose" and new sequel "A Dog's Journey."
"However," she continued. "I think that some good things came from it because we now had two animal-welfare agencies on the set and I think that's the kind of safeguards that films need."
Dennis Quaid, the star of the movies, was happy to clear the air on the "Dog's Purpose" controversy Thursday night (9 MAY 2019), at the new film's premiere in Los Angeles.
"I think we were really vindicated in that," he said. "That was PETA that was coming forward, and they, and it was somebody who was not a crew member who showed up on a closed set, took a little bit of video and then edited the video to make it look like a dog was being abused where there was no dog being abused."
Both films are based on author W. Bruce Cameron's best-selling series of books, which propose that dogs may have short physical lives, but continue their lives journeys through reincarnation.
Cameron was on the sets of both films and assured that no dogs were harmed.
