బంతి వికెట్లను తాకి బెయిల్స్ కిందపడకపోవడం చాలా సందర్భాల్లో చూసుంటాం. ఇలాంటి వాటిలో వినూత్నంగా ఉన్న ఓ వీడియోను ట్విట్టర్లో పోస్ట్ చేశాడు మాస్టర్ బ్లాస్టర్ సచిన్ తెందూల్కర్. ఇలాంటి పరిస్థితుల్లో మీరే అంపైర్ అయితే ఏం చేస్తారంటూ ప్రశ్నించాడు.

ఇటీవలే జరిగిన క్రికెట్ ప్రపంచకప్లో భారత్ - ఆస్ట్రేలియా మ్యాచ్ గుర్తుందా! బుమ్రా వేసిన బంతి ఆసీస్ ఆటగాడు డేవిడ్ వార్నర్ బ్యాట్ ఇన్సైడ్ ఎడ్జ్కు తగిలి వికెట్లను తాకింది. అయితే బెయిల్స్ కిందపడకపోవడం వల్ల వార్నర్ నాటౌట్గా నిలిచాడు. ఈ విషయంలో ఐసీసీ నిబంధనలపై చాలా మంది అనుమానాలు వ్యక్తం చేశారు. ఇప్పుడు ఇదే అంశాన్ని సచిన్ లేవనెత్తాడు. మీరు అంపైర్ అయితే ఏం చేస్తారు అంటూ క్రికెట్కు సంబంధించిన ఓ వీడియోను ట్విట్టర్లో పోస్ట్ చేశాడు.

బౌలర్ వేసిన బంతిని బ్యాట్స్మన్ ఆడేందుకు ప్రయత్నించగా అది వికెట్లను తాకుతుంది. అయితే పైకి లేచిన బెయిల్ కిందపడకుండా ఓ స్టంప్పై అలాగే ఉండిపోయింది. ఇలాంటి సందిగ్ధ పరిస్థితుల్లో మీరే అంపైర్ అయితే ఏం చేస్తారని ట్వీట్ చేశాడు సచిన్. నెటిజన్లు విశేషంగా స్పందిస్తున్నారు.
ఐసీసీ నిబంధన ఏంటి..?
అంతర్జాతీయ క్రికెట్ మండలి(ఐసీసీ) నియమాల చట్టం సెక్షన్ 29.1.1 ప్రకారం బంతి వికెట్లను తాకినపుడు స్టంప్స్పై నుంచి బెయిల్స్ పూర్తిగా వేరు పడాలి లేదా స్టంప్ కిందపడాలి. ఇలా జరిగినపుడే బ్యాట్స్మన్ను ఔట్గా పరిగణిస్తారు.
బెయిల్స్ కిందపడకపోవడం వల్ల చాలాసార్లు బ్యాట్స్మన్ నాటౌట్గా నిలిచిన సందర్భాలు ఉన్నాయి. ఈ ఏడాది ప్రపంచకప్లోనే ఈ విధంగా ఆరు సార్లు జరిగింది.

"This actually used to be a car park for many years. And Beth (Chatto) always used to say that even the native weeds would curl up and die in July. It was that dry. "It's definitely more important in these days when you have these volatile sort of changes in the weather. One year we have very cold winters, then we have mild winters, we might have a very wet spring, then we might have a very dry spring. Last year we had a heatwave that lasted... we had about 50 days with very hot temperatures and no rain whatsoever. So it's really important to think about how you use water in your garden."

"I grew up here, came here in the summer holidays. We lived about 150 miles away, so we weren't on the doorstep. But we did just to come and spend extended amounts of time here. And you know it's a really lovely place to come to as a child and to have this freedom and such an exciting environment to be in."

"She (Beth Chatto) was very interested in design and shape and texture. And so for her in the garden it was very important to think about all of those different things. So she would have a palette of plants that she could use to suit the conditions. But then she would make choices based on their form and texture and movement, color - really, you know everything she would be looking at and painting a picture with these plants."

"She'd seen a dried out riverbed and it gave her an idea. And she thought 'I could create something similar, that would look similar like a dried out riverbeds flowing through with planting on either side. And that's what she created."

"As a child it was just my grandma's garden. It was perfectly normal to me. And it's only really been more recently when I've been living here and working along with the gardeners that I've rarely understood her principles and the magnitude really of what she was doing at that time."

With temperatures set to reach 37 Degrees Celsius in some parts of the UK, many gardeners are busy watering their plants and worrying about the welfare of their favourite plants.
Not so in Colchester just outside London, where a vibrant dry garden is thriving despite never having been watered since it was created by the late gardener Beth Chatto in the early 1990s.
STORYLINE:
Like a dry riverbed, gravel paths meander through a garden overflowing with colour and delicate blossoms swaying in the warm currents of the summer breeze.
Welcome to Beth Chatto's Gravel Garden, where plants never get watered, yet thrive even in the current heat wave.
"We would never feed our plants", says Åsa Gregers-Warg, Head Gardener at Beth Chatto Gardens.
"Once they're in the ground, that's it. They just have to cope with whatever rain we have from above."
Some of the plants would have gone without watering since the garden was created in 1992.
Others have been added since, but the same rules apply.
"This actually used to be a car park for many years. And Beth (Chatto) always used to say that even the native weeds would curl up and die in July. It was that dry. But she knew that if he just chose the right plants that could cope with his conditions she could create something really really beautiful," explains Gregers-Warg.
And more frequent hot summer spells in recent years, the philosophy that Chatto pioneered decades ago of choosing from those plants naturally most suitable to the conditions at hand - without compromising on aesthetics - has acquired a new urgency.
According to Gregers-Warg, it is "definitely more important in these days when you have these volatile sort of changes in the weather. One year we have very cold winters, then we have mild winters, we might have a very wet spring, then we might have a very dry spring. Last year we had about 50 days with very hot temperatures and no rain whatsoever. So it's really important to think about how you use water in your garden."
The award-winning plantswoman Chatto, who was also an author and lecturer, began her work in the 1960, transforming an overgrown wasteland of brambles, parched gravel and boggy ditches into the gardens she became known for across the world.
Her granddaughter, Julia Boulton, is now the Managing Director of the family business.
"I grew up here, came here in the summer holidays. We about 150 miles away, so we weren't on the doorstep. But we did just to come and spend extended amounts of time here. And you know it's a really lovely place to come to as a child and to have this freedom and such an exciting environment to be in," Boulton says.
Boulton explains that crucially the combination of ecological gardening and strong aesthetics was by no means considered to be a contraction by her grandmother.
"She was very interested in design and shape and texture. And so for her in the garden it was very important to think about all of those different things.
So she would have a palette of plants that she could use to suit the conditions. But then she would make choices based on their form and texture and movement, color - really, you know everything she would be looking at and painting a picture with these plants."
Much of this was new territory at the time Chatto started out. Her inspiration for the dry Gravel Garden in particular was looked upon with some initial scepticism.
"At the time people were very interested, but I get the impression that they thought it wouldn't work. It was very ahead of its time. There weren't any other gardens like that at the time. But knowing my grandma it would've worked, because she knew her plants and she did know, you know, what she was doing," Boulton explains.
Her inspiration came from having seen a dry riverbed, says Boulton:
"She thought 'I could create something similar, that would look similar like a dried out riverbeds flowing through with planting on either side'. And that's what she created."
Decades later, people still flock to the gardens to learn and get inspiration.
Boulton says that "as a child it was just my grandma's garden. It was perfectly normal to me. As another hot day engulfs the country, the flowers in the dry garden soak up the rays, using their natural copying mechanisms to thrive in the heat without the need for the gardeners to get our the watering hose.
