అండర్-19 ప్రపంచకప్ గెలవాలని పట్టుదలతో బరిలోకి దిగుతోంది యువ టీమిండియా. ద్రవిడ్ పర్యవేక్షణలోని ఈ జట్టు డిఫెండింగ్ ఛాంపియన్గా దక్షిణాఫ్రికా వెళ్తోంది. మెగాటోర్నీకి ఇంకా నెల సమయమే ఉండటం వల్ల పలు అంశాలపై సీనియర్ సారథి పృథ్వీషా సలహాలు కోరాడు ప్రస్తుత కెప్టెన్ ప్రియమ్ గార్గ్.

ప్రపంచకప్ కోసం సీనియర్ సారథితో మంతనాలు

గతేడాది భారత జట్టు సాధించిన అండర్-19 ప్రపంచకప్‌ టైటిల్‌ను నిలబెట్టేందుకు అప్పటి సారథి పృథ్వీషా సలహాలు కోరాడు ప్రస్తుత కెప్టెన్ ప్రియమ్‌ గార్గ్‌. జట్టు ప్రణాళిక, ఆటగాళ్లను సమన్వయం చేయడం వంటి విషయాలపై ఇద్దరి మధ్య చర్చ జరిగింది. త్వరలో టీమిండియా సారథి విరాట్ కోహ్లీని కూడా కలవనున్నట్లు తెలిపాడు. దక్షిణాఫ్రికా వేదికగా జనవరి 17 నుంచి ఫిబ్రవరి 9 వరకు ఈ మెగాటోర్నీ జరగనుంది.

"పృథ్వీషాతో చాలా విషయాలు చర్చించాను. ప్రణాళిక రచించడం, కీలక సమయాల్లో తీసుకోవాల్సిన నిర్ణయాలపై కొన్ని సూచనలు చేశాడు. ఆటగాళ్లు ఎంత దగ్గరైతే అంత బాగా ఆడతారని షా సూచించాడు. మొదట ఆటగాళ్ల బలాలేంటో గుర్తించాలని అన్నాడు. 2018లో ప్రపంచకప్‌ గెలిచేందుకు క్రికెటర్ల మధ్య అనుబంధమే కీలక పాత్ర పోషించిందని చెప్పాడు. డిఫెండింగ్‌ ఛాంపియన్లుగా వెళుతున్న మాపై ఒత్తిడేమీ లేదు. అంతపెద్ద టోర్నీలో జట్టుకు సారథ్యం వహించడం నాకు పెద్ద అవకాశంగా భావిస్తున్నా. సారథిగా జట్టును ముందుకు తీసుకెళ్లడం, కఠిన పరిస్థితులను ఎదుర్కోవడం గురించి ఆలోచిస్తున్నా. త్వరలో విరాట్ కోహ్లీని కలుస్తాను"

గతంలో మహ్మద్ కైఫ్(2000), విరాట్కోహ్లీ(2008), ఉన్ముక్త్ చంద్(2012), పృథ్వీషా(2018) సారథ్యంలో భారత్ నాలుగుసార్లు అండర్-19 ప్రపంచకప్ విజేతగా నిలిచింది.

డిఫెండింగ్ ఛాంపియన్ అయిన భారత్.. న్యూజిలాండ్, శ్రీలంకతోపాటు అరంగేట్రం చేస్తున్న జపాన్‌తో కలిసి గ్రూప్-ఏలో ఉండగా, ఆతిథ్య దక్షిణాప్రికా.. అఫ్గానిస్థాన్, యూఏఈ, కెనడాతో కలిసి గ్రూప్-డిలో ఉంది. ఈ టోర్నీలోమొత్తం 16 జట్లు తలపడనున్నాయి. టీమిండియా జట్టుకు ప్రియమ్ గార్గ్ సారథ్య బాధ్యతలు నిర్వహించనుండగా.. కీపర్ ధృవ్ చంద్ జురెల్ వైస్ కెప్టెన్గా ఉండనున్నాడు.

"If there's one job that Steven Gerrard would love in the world, well, it doesn't take me to say it, it's got to be the Liverpool job. But, I'd be astounded if he's not the Liverpool manager at some point in his life. The thing is at the moment, Jurgen Klopp is doing an amazing job and long may that continue. "Well, I think really important. Towards the latter stages of your career you start looking at the game differently. You start quizzing the manager but (also) trying to understand why he's done that. And sometimes the manager will bring you in a little bit. He'll ask your opinion and you can almost be not a coach but you're the conjugate between manager and players. So I think you get that little bit of experience later on in your career and he certainly had that and then obviously went to Derby. Some thought (the Chelsea) job might be a year too soon. He's only been there (at Chelsea) a short period of time but what a job he's done as well."

"I think it's really difficult as an England manager because you don't get much time with your players and all of a sudden if there's any issues or problems, you've got to make the right decisions, not only for the player, but for the nation, for the squad and for everybody. And I must say, I've very rarely, if any time, doubted or argued or thought what Gareth Southgate has done is the wrong decision. I think he's handled everything well. His preparation is unbelievably thorough for competitions and for individual games. Little instances and we call them little because they weren't (major) and of course at the time you blow it up into a big thing (between Sterling and Gomez). But, I think Gareth has a great knack of doing the right thing at the right time and that was probably one of them."

STORYLINE:
While Michael Owen's retirement from football saw him begin punditry work, for many of his former club and international team-mates the pathway into management came calling.
The former Liverpool and England international reflected on the progression of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Gareth Southgate, and was full of praise for all three.
While Gerrard and Lampard are impressing at club level with Rangers and Chelsea, respectively, Southgate is thriving on the international stage with England and led them to a World Cup semi-final in 2018.
Owen also backed his former Liverpool teammate Gerrard to eventually become the Liverpool manager - but only after Jurgen Klopp leaves, with the German having recently signed an extension until 2024.
