ప్రతిష్ఠాత్మక లారెస్‌ క్రీడా పురస్కారం రేసులో నిలిచాడు భారత దిగ్గజ క్రికెటర్‌ సచిన్‌ తెందుల్కర్‌. మాస్టర్ను ఓటు వేసి గెలిపించాలని, టీమిండియా కెప్టెన్ విరాట్ కోహ్లీ అభిమానులను కోరాడు. ఈ విషయాన్ని ట్విట్టర్ వేదికగా పంచుకున్నాడు

2000-2020 మధ్య కాలంలో 'దేశం భుజాలపై మోసిన సందర్భం' పేరుతో లారెస్‌ సంస్థ ఓ ప్రత్యేక పురస్కారాన్ని అందిస్తోంది. ఈ అవార్డుకు నామినేట్‌ అయిన 20 మందిలో సచిన్‌ ఒకడు. 2011 క్రికెట్‌ ప్రపంచకప్‌లో గెలిచినప్పుడు భారత జట్టంతా కలిసి సచిన్‌ను తమ భుజాలపై మోస్తూ స్టేడియంలో ఊరేగించారు. ఈ సందర్భాన్ని సూచిస్తూ.. సచిన్‌ను పురస్కారానికి నామినేట్‌ చేశారు.

అయిదు పర్యాయాలు ప్రపంచకప్‌లో బరిలోకి దిగి టైటిల్‌ ఆశలు నెరవేర్చుకోలేకపోయిన మాస్టర్‌.. 2011లో తన ఆరో ప్రపంచకప్‌లో కల నెరవేర్చుకున్నాడు. ఆ టోర్నీలో అద్భుత ప్రదర్శన చేశాడు. సచిన్‌ సొంత నగరం ముంబయిలో ఫైనల్‌ ముగిసిన అనంతరం మాస్టర్‌ను కెప్టెన్‌ ధోని సహా ఆటగాళ్లందరూ భుజాలపై మోశారు. క్రికెట్‌ చరిత్రలో ఇదో గొప్ప సందర్భంగా నిలిచిపోయింది. అందుకే దీన్ని లారెస్‌ పురస్కారానికి ఎంపిక చేశారు.

గత 20 ఏళ్లలో గొప్ప ప్రదర్శనలు చేసిన 20 మంది క్రీడాకారులను అవార్డుకు నామినేట్‌ చేశారు. వీరిలో విజేత ఎవరన్నది ప్రజల ఓటింగ్‌ ద్వారా నిర్ణయిస్తారు. ఈ నెల 10న మొదలైన ఓటింగ్‌ ఫిబ్రవరి 16 వరకు కొనసాగుతుంది. 20 మంది నుంచి 10 మందికి.. ఆ తర్వాత అయిదుగురికి జాబితాను కుదిస్తారు. ఈనెల 17న బెర్లిన్‌లో జరిగే లారెస్‌ 20వ వార్షికోత్సవ వేడుకల్లో విజేతను ప్రకటిస్తారు.

STORYLINE:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was greeted with a colourful reception as he arrived in Addis Ababa for a meeting with Ethiopian women entrepreneurs on Sunday.
The meeting was held at the Yod Abyssinia traditional restaurant and is part of his government's effort to boost trade between the two countries.
Ethiopia is one of the global markets that Canadians need to explore, Trudeau said.
Trudeau was accompanied by Mary Ng, Canada's Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade.
Among the woman entrepreneurs was Samrawit Moges, Founder and Co-Director of Travel Ethiopia.
"Ethiopia needs foreign currency. Tourism is not a sector like agriculture, that takes significant time. We have the attractions, what we need is to develop the infrastructure and attract as many tourists as possible," she said.
Trudeau is visiting Ethiopia for bilateral meetings and to attend the African Union summit.
He will also be travelling to Senegal as part of the eight-day trip.
