యాషెస్ నాలుగో టెస్టు తర్వాత టెస్టు ర్యాంకింగ్స్ ప్రకటించింది ఐసీసీ. ఆసీస్ స్టార్ బ్యాట్స్మెన్ స్టీవ్ స్మిత్ తొలిస్థానం సంపాదించుకున్నాడు. మాంచెస్టర్ వేదికగా జరిగిన యాషెస్ నాలుగో టెస్టులో 185 పరుగుల తేడాతో విజయం సాధించింది ఆస్ట్రేలియా. ఈ మ్యాచ్ విజయంలో కీలకపాత్ర పోషించాడు స్మిత్. రెండు ఇన్నింగ్స్ల్లో 211, 82 పరుగులతో రాణించిన ఈ క్రికెటర్.. ప్రస్తుతం 937 పాయింట్లతో ఉన్నాడు.

టీమిండియా సారథి కోహ్లీ రెండో స్థానంలో కొనసాగుతున్నాడు. వీరిద్దరి మధ్య 34 పాయింట్ల అంతరం ఉంది. జాస్ బట్లర్ (37), రోరీ బర్న్స్(61), ఇంగ్లాండ్ కెప్టెన్ టిమ్ పైన్ (60) ర్యాంకులు మెరుగుపర్చుకున్నారు.

As we know about a third of the lamb in the UK is exported mainly to Euro, European countries, Eurozone countries. So at the moment where profitability in the UK farming is marginal at best. So it could only sort of get quite bad if if our trade conditions sort of worsened."

"There are growing markets I know we're - our industry in the UK is tapping into these new sort of increasingly wealthy markets that do want grass fed British reared to our very high welfare standards, beef and lamb. You have to sort of tap into these markets, do all the bureaucratic bits as well and it does take time to get volumes going - years - so I think I'd be a bit naive to think that would be our answers straightaway."

"We're not in a third countries list so we'll be subject to export tariffs into the EU who are our biggest trade partner. And that would be catastrophic for a lot of farm businesses. It would be effectively a trade embargo on certain sectors because they have to have checks, by vets, and border inspection posts and that throws up a huge amount of issues in terms of you know, stock being kept in ports and then there could be a huge delays around the ports and effectively it would be an embargo."

"It's hard to put an exact figure on it really obviously with the uncertainty surrounding it. But you know it would have huge impacts on the UK's biggest manufacturing sector which is food and drink which accounts for 108 billion pounds to the economy and employs 4 million people. So obviously with volatile markets and potential lack of supplies and shortages of supplies and we're putting those four million people at risk in terms of that so this goes way beyond the farm gate and way beyond the rural economy. This affects the whole economy."

STORYLINE:
UK farmers in the East Midlands' agriculture belt say they've had it with the lack of clarity caused by a still unresolved Brexit.
Forced to focus only on the short term, they're deeply concerned about their livelihoods.
Oli Lee manages grass-fed sheep and beef cattle on a combined 740 acres in Leicestershire. Most of his buyers are in the UK but he is still affected by market prices.
Agriculture is a massive industry in the UK, whose current challenges would get dramatically worse, at least in the immediate, should there be a no deal Brexit.
So says James Peck, a spokesperson for the National Farmers' Union that represents more than fifty thousand farmers. He says they need a deal, not a no deal Brexit.
Peck says the continuation of the current "free and frictionless trade with the EU" is vital to the health of the industry, anything else will be "catastrophic" because a No Deal Brexit would create huge export tariffs with the EU, Britain's main agriculture trading partner. What would emerge would be tantamount to an embargo says Peck.
As for the projected damage to the industry in case of a no deal Brexit, Peck warned that it was hard to put an exact figure on it.
Back on the sheep farm in Leicestershire, Oli Lee discounts the argument from those who believe that a no deal Brexit might be rough at the start but that Britain will simply find new trading partners outside of the EU.
Lee calls accessing those new markets "a slow burn". He believes "it's not something you can send vast amounts straight away.
