సెమీఫైనల్లో సాయి ప్రణీత్ ఓటమితో జపాన్ ఓపెన్లో భారత పోరాటం ముగిసింది. టోక్యో వేదికగా శనివారం ఉత్కంఠగా జరిగిన పోరులో స్థానిక ఆటగాడు, నెంబర్ వన్ షట్లర్ కెంటో మెమోటో చేతిలో ఓడిపోయాడు ప్రణీత్. తొలి గేమ్‌లో పోరాడి ఓడిన భారత ఆటగాడు.. రెండో గేమ్‌లో మాత్రం చేతులెత్తేశాడు. కేవలం 45 నిమిషాల్లోనే మ్యాచ్ ముగిసింది. 18-21, 12-21 తేడాతో చిత్తయ్యాడు.

మొదటి రౌండ్ ప్రారంభంలో 3-1 తేడాతో ఆధిక్యంలో నిలిచాడు ప్రణీత్‌ . తర్వాత మెమోటో వరుసగా పాయింట్లు సాధించి లీడ్లోకి వచ్చాడు. రెండో గేమ్‌లో ప్రత్యర్థికి కనీస పోటీ ఇవ్వలేకపోయాడు ప్రణీత్‌. ఫలితంగా సెమీస్లోనే టోర్నీ నుంచి నిష్క్రమించాడు తెలుగు తేజం. సాయిని అలవోకగా ఓడించి ఫైనల్కు దూసుకెళ్లాడు నెంబర్వన్ ప్లేయర్. ఇండోనేసియా ఓపెన్లోనూ ఇదే ఆటగాడి చేతిలో ఓడి ఇంటిదారి పట్టాడు ప్రణీత్.

మహిళల సింగిల్స్ క్వార్టర్స్లో అకానే యమగూచి (ఇండోనేసియా) చేతిలో పీవీ సింధు ఓడిపోయింది. పురుషుల డబుల్స్‌లో క్వార్టర్ ఫైనల్లోనే ఇంటిముఖం పట్టారు భారత ద్వయం సాత్విక్‌ సాయిరాజు- చిరాగ్‌శెట్టి.

"There is an internal balcony inside the nightclub, and the size of the balcony was about 23.1 to 26.4 square metres (248.6 to 284.2 sq feet). We think that there were too many people on the balcony at the same time when it collapsed. From the surveillance camera recordings, we have found that there were approximately 370 people in the club (at the time of the accident)."

STORYLINE:
An internal balcony at a nightclub in South Korea collapsed on Saturday, killing two people and injuring 16 including American and other athletes at the world swimming championships, officials said.
Hundreds were at the nightclub in the southern South Korean city of Gwangju when the collapse occurred next to the athletes' village.
Two South Korean men died while 16 others were injured, police said.
Kim Young-don, Chief of Gwangju Western Fire Station, told members of the media that the collapse possibly happened because there were too many people on the balcony at the same time.
He added that surveillance footage from inside the club had revealed approximately 370 people were in the building at the time of the collapse.
According to a police account, the injured include 10 foreigners, eight of them athletes who were in Gwangju to participate in the swimming championships.
Among the athletes were three Americans, two New Zealanders, one Dutch, one Italian and one Brazilian, a police officer said, requesting anonymity ahead of an official announcement.
He said most had minor injuries but an American female water polo player required surgery.
Police said they detained one of the nightclub's co-owners and summoned three other club officials to investigate whether the collapsed balcony was an unauthorised structure.
