The militaries of China and Cambodia are conducting good cooperation in exercises, training and logistic equipment. Such cooperation is not targeted at any third party."

STORYLINE:
China said it will not seek hegemony no matter how strong its military power becomes, but it will not renounce the use of force in efforts to reunify Taiwan with the mainland and vowed to take all necessary military measures to defeat "separatists."
In a national defence white paper released on Wednesday, China said its military expenditure lags behind the demands for maintaining the domestic and overseas interests.
"The building and growth of China defence capability is based on its own justified security demands," said Defence Ministry spokesman Wu Qian.
China's defence budget for 2019 totals 1.19 trillion yuan (175.4 billion US dollars), ranking the 2nd after the United States.
In the white paper, China listed among its top priorities its resolve to contain "Taiwan independence" and combat what it considers separatist forces in Tibet and the far west region of Xinjiang.
Wu Qian said the threat of Taiwan separatism was growing and warned those who are seeking Taiwan independence will meet a dead end.
Taiwan, a democratically governed island, split from the Communist Party-ruled mainland China amidst civil war in 1949.
China maintains Taiwan is part of its territory and seeks "complete reunification."
Wu Qian said China's military was closely following the development of the situation in Hong Kong, especially the protests last Sunday when Beijing's representative office in the in city was defiled.
He implied that according to the garrison laws of Hong Kong, the Chinese military forces stationed in Hong Kong can be deployed to restore the social order if necessary.
Asked to comment on the report that China had signed a secret agreement allowing its armed forces to use a Cambodian navy base, Wu Qian said the report was "untrue."
