Following an arrangement by the Syrian government, the first batch of Quasyr residents returned to their hometown on Sunday, ending their seven-year stint in exile.
Quasyr is a border area in Homs of Syria, which has been regarded as an important military outpost. In 2013, Syrian government forces regained control of Quasyr after fierce battles with rebels.
It has been seven years since some Quasyr residents fled from their hometown. Waving their national flag, hundreds of households got on the buses heading to Quasyr. The return of fleeing Quasyr residents brought the town to full vigor.
"When I left Al-Qusayr, I was seven. Now I only have a few memories about my neighbors. I am really happy. I left home when I was a child of seven and have returned when I am all grown up," said Muhee Aldin, Qusayr resident.
A Homs official introduced that Qusayr is an important economic area of Homs. Currently, the government has restored 70 percent of the infrastructure in the town. In the next months, local government will build three schools to meet the education demand.
"The security personnel has cleaned the area from mines and bombs and made it safe for residents to return. We also initiated the returning process, the government departments will provide the residents with basic daily supplies to ensure normal livelihoods," said Talal Albarazi, the Governor of Homs.
The return of the first batch of Qusayr residents not only means the situation turns better, but also means the Syrian government has the ability to control the complex situation in the eastern border area of the country. With the post-war construction moving ahead, more and more Qusayr residents will come back to rebuild their hometown in the near future.
