ఈ సీరియల్కు రమానంద్ సాగర్ దర్శకుడిగా, నిర్మాతగా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించారు. లాక్డౌన్ వల్ల ఇంట్లోనే ఉన్న ప్రజల కోసం, మార్చి 28 నుంచి, కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం మరోసారి దీనిని ప్రసారం చేస్తోంది. మొత్తంగా 78 ఎపిసోడ్లు ఉన్న ఈ ధారావాహికను వాల్మీకి రామాయణం, తులసీదాస్ రామచరిత్ మానస్ ఆధారంగా రూపొందించారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఉదయం 9 నుంచి 10 గంటల వరకు, అలాగే సాయంత్రం 9 నుంచి 10 గంటల వరకు డీడీ నేషనల్(దూరదర్శన్) ఛానల్‌లో వస్తోంది.
1987 జనవరి 25 నుంచి 1988 జులై 31 వరకు ప్రతి ఆదివారం ఉదయం 9:30 గంటలకు 'రామాయణ్' ప్రసారమయ్యేది. అప్పట్లోనే ప్రపంచంలో అత్యధికులు వీక్షిస్తున్న సీరియల్గా రికార్డు సంపాదించింది. దీనితో పాటే ఎక్కువ మంది చూసిన పౌరాణిక సీరియల్గానూ లిమ్కా బుక్ ఆఫ్ రికార్డుల్లో చోటు దక్కించుకుంది.
