LEADIN:
Prince Harry, Meghan and their son Archie are undertaking their first official tour as a family.
While Meghan is expected to stay with Archie in South Africa, Prince Harry is due to arive in Malawi in the next few days having visited Angola, following in the footsteps of his mother, Princess Diana.
STORYLINE:
Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in South Africa on September 23.
The 10-day, multi-country tour also includes stops for Harry in Botswana, Angola and Malawi with a focus on wildlife protection, mental health and mine clearance.
Prince Harry and will be paying a visit to the Mauwa Health Centre facility in Malawi on October 1.
In the meantime, it is business as usual at the facility ahead of the royal visit.
First to be seen is mother and Chiradzulu resident, Nduzayani Freza, who has come in today to get her ten-month-year old child immunized.
Freza is very happy with the services on offer.
"Girls like me have their children grow up healthy because of the youth health friendly services we get here," says Freza.
"Couples are able to follow proper child spacing because they can access family planning close to them."
Next to be seen is heavily pregnant, 31-year-old, Joyce Mwadzeranji.
At nine months pregnant, she has come for her check-up to ensure that she will be able to deliver her baby safely.
Mwadzeranji has given birth to four children before at the nearby medical facility and sees no reason to go elsewhere.
"For the youth and young mothers like us, it is very easy to access family planning methods compared to the past. We can access long and short term contraceptives making our families and lives stronger," says Mwadzeranji.
Mauwa Health Centre receives aid from the United States and the United Kingdom.
And one of the financial contributors at the facility is The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, whose president is Prince Harry.
The royal baby made a rare public appearance on Wednesday in South Africa.
Meghan held Archie as the royal couple met with Nobel Peace Prize winner and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town.
Prince Harry says he and his wife Meghan will have no more than two children because of concerns for the environment.
In Malawi Youth Reproductive Health Outreach programmes offered at the hospital have enabled Mwadzeranji and her peers to understand the importance of family planning.
Emanuel Moses, head of Mauwa Heath Centre explains, since the new programs were introduced, "most of the youth have been coming in large numbers many indeed welcoming the project. Previously we had smaller numbers of youth who were coming to attend (access) these family planning methods, but almost all youth in our catchment area are coming large numbers to take the family planning methods."
In total, the hospital serves about 15 thousand youths, he says.
In Angola a body armor-wearing Prince Harry followed in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana, whose walk through an active mine field in Angola years ago helped to lead to a global ban on the deadly weapons.
The prince walked through a dusty mine field marked with skull-and-crossbones warning signs, and was visiting the spot where Diana was famously photographed on a similar walk during her own Africa visit in 1997.
The Queen's Commonwealth Trust also funds another Malawi based project known as "Pharmacy in a Box" which has eased the challenges of storing medicine and has been introduced to the 11 hospitals on the programme.
The facility was designed in the shape of a box and fitted with the necessary equipment to keep medicine in a safe storage environment and to protect from the high temperatures experienced in the area.
Powered by solar the storage units haveair conditioners to keep the medicines and vaccines at room temperature at all times.
During his visit to Malawi, Prince Harry is expected to learn about the impact of the "Pharmacy in a Box" initiative.
Pharmacy technician for Chiradzulu, Ashani Kaliza, says "It is a boost for Chiradzulu District Health office to receive such a visitor intending to inspect the state-of-the-art storage units. We appreciate the effort that they are coming to see how we are managing the storage in the box programme in Chiradzulu and Mauwa Health Centre in particular."
The Mauwa Health Centre opened its doors to the public in 1989 and is situated close to the border of Chiradzulu district, Mulanje in the South East and Phalombe in the North East.
Among other services, the health centre offers nutrition services, HIV testing, art clinics and integrated management in childhood services.
On average, each day the medical facility will see to around 250 people.
The centre does not, however, deliver children because it is not a fully equipped rural centre.
Instead, it refers them instead to Chiradzulu District Hospital about 15 kilometres (9 miles) away.
"Together with my people, we were excited at learning of his visit. We would like to see him and carry our his work in our area face to face" explains John Daniel, a local leader.
During his visit to Malawi, the Duke will also visit where the Guardsman Mathew Talbot died in an incident involving a wild elephant while on a joint anti-poaching patrol Liwonde national park in Machinga, East Malawi.
The royal family's Africa visit ends on Oct. 2
