I think it's a wonderful venue, especially because it's in a beautiful garden, a beautiful house and it's also a very special stage and also what I love about this is just a lot of dancers from all over the world then get together and we get to do new work and also some wonderful repertoire from big, major companies."

LEAD IN
Principal ballet dancers from across the globe have come together to perform in the grounds of an English stately home.
'Ballet Under the Stars' is in its 10th year and features performers from The Royal Ballet, The Mariinsky and Staatsballett Berlin.
STORYLINE
Surrounded by stone statues and rose bushes these ballet dancers playing Romeo and Juliet are performing under the stars, in the open air.
That's because the theatre has been specially created around the 17th Century walled Dutch Garden at Hatch House, an English stately home in the Wiltshire countryside.
It's for an annual performance of internationally renowned ballet dancers called 'Ballet Under The Stars' - which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Taking centre stage are principal dancers from The Royal Ballet, The Mariinsky and Staatsballett Berlin, amongst others.
"I think and feel we've got an amazing programme," says Matt Brady, Director of Covent Garden Dance Company, who came up with the concept.
"We've got Xander Parish from Mariinsky, Lauren Cuthbertson from The Royal Ballet, Steven McRae from The Royal Ballet, Mara Galeazzi who's ex Royal Ballet as well, Ksenia Ovsyanick from Staatsballett Berlin and the list goes on and on and on and it's been a huge privilege over the years to work with so many different people."
430 people will sit down each night to eat a three course dinner between performances, underneath a bespoke tent which covers the garden, stage and dining area.
Brady says that this year is the first time they've had a complete sell out for the three night event.
Warming up on stage before his performance tonight is Xander Parish.
The British born ballet star has lived in Russia for almost 10 years, dancing for the Kremlin Ballet, the Stanislavsky Ballet in Moscow and now as Principal of The Mariinsky Ballet.
In January 2019 he was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours list for services to dance and UK-Russia Cultural Relations.
"To be outside on the grass with tables and people eating and dining watching you is rather unusual. I'm used to dancing in opera houses around the world and this is certainly an unusual venue, but one that's comparable in terms of taste and quality," he says.
"I live in Russia now, I've been there for almost 10 years and I don't get home very often, so to come home's always nice. My mum and dad are going to be here somewhere watching so it's going to be nice."
Ballet Under The Stars is now an established summer world class event, and this year's line-up of dancers is its most impressive yet.
Ksenia Ovsyanick is Principal Ballerina with the Staatsballett Berlin and first danced at Hatch House nine years ago:
"It's transformed completely since then from a very intimate and small event to something quite official and grand and actually a fantastic ballet event," she says.
She adds that dancing in the open air is a special experience: "It's the feeling of nature around you and the air and it adds to the atmosphere, it adds to the movement, it adds to the music."
Backstage the dancers are beginning to put on their makeup.
Italian dancer Mara Galeazzi is a former Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet, having joined in 1992 aged 18.
This is the sixth time she's danced at Hatch House:
"What I love about this is just a lot of dancers from all over the world then get together and we get to do new work and also some wonderful repertoire from big, major companies," she says.
As the guests start to arrive they enjoy drinks in the garden and are met by ballerinas dressed as magical garden nymphs.
Sebastian Roberts and his wife Elizabeth live near Hatch House and have visited Ballet Under The Stars many times:
"It's extremely popular and extremely good to have such quality ballet in a place a long way from London," says Roberts.
As the sun sets the guests take their seats in what organisers describe as a "living theatre" to enjoy a mix of classical, neo-classical and contemporary ballet.
Ballet Under The Stars ran at Hatch House, Wiltshire from 26th to 28th July 2019.
