ప్రపంచ పొదుపు దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా మహిళల సేవింగ్స్పై ఓ ఆసక్తికర సర్వే నిర్వహించింది స్క్రిప్బాక్స్ ఆనే ఆర్థిక సేవల సంస్థ. ఈ సర్వేలో మహిళలు పొదుపు కోసం ఎంచుకున్న మార్గాలు, సేవింగ్స్ లక్ష్యాలకు సంబంధించి పలు కీలక విషయాలు వెల్లడయ్యాయి.
మహిళల పొదుపుపై సర్వే
పొదుపు విషయంలో మహిళలు.. అందరూ అనుకునే దానికన్నా ఎక్కువ జాగ్రత్తగా ఉంటున్నారని ఓ సర్వేలో వెల్లడైంది. ప్రపంచ పొదుపు దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా స్క్రిప్బాక్స్ అనే సంస్థ నిర్వహించిన ఈ సర్వేలో పలు ఆసక్తికర విషయాలు తెలిశాయి.
సర్వేలో పాల్గొన్న మహిళ్లలో 58 శాతం.. ఫిక్స్డ్ డిపాజిట్లు, పబ్లిక్ ప్రావిడెంట్ ఫండ్లు, సేవింగ్స్ ఖాతాలో పొదుపు చేసేందుకు మొగ్గుచూపుతున్నట్లు తెలిసింది.
ఆరు శాతం మంది మహిళలు మిగులు ఆదాయంతో బంగారం కొనుగోలుకు మొగ్గుచూపుతుండగా.. 15 శాతం మంది మ్యూచువల్ ఫండ్లలో పెట్టుబడికి ఇష్టపడుతున్నామని సమాధానమిచ్చారు.
ఈ నెల మొదటి రెండు వారాల్లో.. ఫేస్బుక్లో ఆదరణ పొందిన గ్రూపుల్లోని 400 మంది మహిళలపై ఈ సర్వే జరిపింది స్క్రిప్బాక్స్. సర్వేలో పాల్గొన్న వారిలో 54 శాతం మంది 2000 సంవత్సరం కన్నా ముందు పుట్టినవారు (మిలీనియల్స్)కాగా.. 46 శాతం మంది నాన్ మిలీనియల్స్.
నాలుగింట మూడొంతుల మంది మిలీనియల్స్.. అధికంగా సేవింగ్స్ చేస్తున్నట్లు సర్వే పేర్కొంది. ప్రతి ఆరుగురిలో ఒక మిలీనియల్ మహిళ సెలవుల్లో విహారయాత్ర కోసం పొదుపు చేయడం లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకున్నట్లు తెలిపింది.
నాన్ మిలీనియల్స్లో సగం మందికిపైగా మహిళలు.. రిటైర్మెంట్ పథకాల్లో, వారి పిల్లల చదువుల కోసం పొదుపు చేస్తున్నట్లు సర్వేలో వెల్లడైంది. పన్ను మినహాయింపు పథకాలైన పబ్లిక్ ప్రావిడెంట్ ఫండ్, ఎల్ఐసీ, ఫిక్స్డ్ డిపాజిట్లు నాన్ మిలీనియల్ వయస్సు వారికి ఉపయోగపడతాయని 33 శాతం మంది అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. 26 శాతం మంది వారి ధీర్ఘకాలిక లక్ష్యాలకు మ్యూచువల్ ఫండ్లు ఎక్కువగా ఉపయోగపడుతాయని దృఢంగా విశ్వసిస్తున్నట్లు సర్వే పేర్కొంది.
సర్వేలో పాల్గొన్న మహిళల్లో 28 శాతం మంది తమ ఆర్థిక ప్రణాళికలు.. వారి లక్ష్యాలను నెరవేరుస్తాయని నమ్మకంగా ఉన్నారు. 15 శాతం మంది మాత్రం ఆర్థిక ప్రణాళిక విషయాన్ని వారి భర్తకు గానీ.. ఇంట్లోని ఇతర వ్యక్తులకు గానీ అప్పగిస్తున్నట్లు తెలిసింది. 44 శాతం మంది మంది ఆర్థిక ప్రణాళిక కోసం అదనపు సహాయాన్ని ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నారని సర్వే పేర్కొంది.

"That the children from West Berlin could not come to a funeral, or if there was a case of illness in the West, and the old parents did not manage to come either, because the travel connection only came many years later. And that's how we experienced it, because we were affected ourselves and family ties were simply cut, severed. I really felt that this was the worst thing."

"I often stood there, at the hospital, and thought 'God, can you please take away this wall completely.' And when the news broke on this very November 9th, it was like a kind of fulfilment, but at the same time it was also beyond comprehension."

STORYLINE:
As Germany celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November, the country also commemorates those who were arrested, injured or died as they tried to escape by tunnelling under the wall, swimming past it, climbing on it or flying over it.
At least 138 people died in the attempt.
A group of now retired Lutheran sisters who ran a hospital next to the Wall were often those who first came to help those who managed to escape to West Berlin.
Sister Brigitte Queisser walks slowly along the decaying remains of the Berlin Wall, its rusty rebar reinforcement exposed where the concrete has crumbled away.
The 77-year-old pauses to catch her breath, then opens a gate and steps from former democratic West Berlin into the former communist East.
Standing under an old linden tree, Sister Brigitte looks at the marble gravestones of her former companions.
"When the wall came, (…) here was a kind of no man's land with barbed wire barriers, and then the border path, where the police patrolled. And behind it was a barbed wire fence," she remembers.
The first iteration of the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, billed by East German leader Walter Ulbricht as an "anti-fascist protective wall" for his country's security, but in reality constructed to prevent the flow of its citizens to the West.
It stood for 28 years, until November 9, 1989, and was seen as the front line of the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Union.
"Family ties were simply cut, severed. I really felt that this was the worst thing," Sister Brigitte said.
The Lazarus deaconesses were right at the heart, their residence where they ran their clinic on Bernauer Strasse cut off from its adjacent cemetery by the Wall itself.
Unable to use their own graveyard after the wall was built, they had to use a different burial place in the West while the city was divided.
What today is now a simple step, was a monumental feat for people trying to escape East Berlin during the nearly three decades the wall divided the city.
Some attempts were meticulously planned for months, others brazen and spontaneous.
Many succeeded flawlessly, but as a deaconess of the Lutheran Lazarus Order, sister Brigitte knows of the results of those that didn't, as her order ran a wall-side clinic to provide immediate help to injured escapees and also take care of burying those killed in their attempts to find freedom.
Many of the sisters worked as nurses in the hospital. Sometimes they would become witnesses to the daredevil escapes from the windows of their hospital that overlooked the wall.
"We took care of everybody in our first-aid station who was somehow injured," remembers 84-year-old Sister Christa Hubner.
"Dead or alive, cut open, fractured, everything - we made sure they received first aid and also checked whether they had to be hospitalised."
Today, the aging community of deaconesses can again use their own cemetery and visit the graves of their deceased sisters.
"I often stood there, at the hospital, and thought, 'God, can you please take away this wall completely,'" Sister Brigitte says.
"And when the news broke on this very November 9th, it was like a kind of fulfilment, but at the same time it was also beyond comprehension."
