మెట్రోపాలిటన్ నగరాల్లో పురుషులతో పోలిస్తే మహిళలు ఎక్కువగా చక్కెర(యాడెడ్‌ షుగర్‌)ను ఆరగిస్తున్నట్లు భారత వైద్య పరిశోధన మండలి(ఐసీఎంఆర్‌), హైదరాబాద్‌లోని నేషనల్‌ ఇన్‌స్టిట్యూట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ న్యూట్రిషన్‌ సంయుక్త అధ్యయనంలో తేలింది. ఆహార పదార్థాల్లో సహజసిద్ధంగా ఉండే తీపి కాకుండా, అదనంగా చేర్చే తీపిని యాడెడ్‌ షుగర్‌గా పిలుస్తారు. ఇలాంటి చక్కెరను మెట్రోపాలిటన్ నగరాల్లో ప్రజలు సగటున రోజుకు 19.5 గ్రాములు తింటున్నారు.
సగటున పురుషులు రోజుకు 18.7 గ్రాములు, మహిళలు రోజుకు 20.2 గ్రాములు ఆరగిస్తున్నారు. మొత్తంగా అత్యధిక సగటు వినియోగం ముంబయిలో(రోజుకు 26.3 గ్రాములు), అత్యల్ప వినియోగం హైదరాబాద్‌లో నమోదైంది. అహ్మదాబాద్‌లో మాత్రం ఈ వినియోగం స్త్రీ-పురుషుల్లో దాదాపు సమానంగా(రోజుకు 25.9 గ్రాములు) ఉంది. వయసుపరంగా చూస్తే 36-59 ఏళ్ల మధ్య వారిలో చక్కెరల వినియోగం అత్యధికంగా ఉంది.
