STORYLINE:
First lady Melania Trump took her "Be Best" campaign to Las Vegas on Tuesday, saying she wished the media would talk about the drug epidemic and less on "idle gossip or trivial stories."
She spoke during a town hall-style discussion about the epidemic that claimed nearly 48,000 American lives in 2017.
Mrs. Trump used the event to close a two-day, three-state promotional tour for her "Be Best" initiative, which includes a focus on babies born dependent on opioids.
Host Eric Bolling, a former Fox News host, lost his only child and 19-year-old son, Eric Chase, to an accidental drug overdose in September 2017.
The first lady participated in a similar conversation led by Bolling last November at Liberty University in Virginia.
President Donald Trump has declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency and his administration is spending billions of dollars to fight it.
