MIDDLE EAST DESIGNERS SHOWCASE THEIR COLLECTION AT JORDAN FASHION WEEK
Lebanese designer Jean-Louis Sabaji kicked off Jordan Fashion Week with an 80s vibe -  metallics, leg slits and off the shoulder gowns - Friday (29 MARCH 2019) in Amman.
"The theme of my collection is a tribute to the 80s, so it's all about the 80s glitz and glamour. As you can see in the pieces, it's all about shiny metallic," he said.
Jordan Fashion Week's founder Shirene Rifai said the two day event gathered more than fifty designers from the Middle East, mainly from Jordan.
Eighteen different designers had the chance to strut their latest collections on the runway. The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel.
Fashion week founder Rifai said many attendees were unaware that there were so many local designers.
"So it's not just about the international media and giving them that exposure, but at the same time I wanted the country itself to get to know their own designers. And I think we proved that we have a lot of artists here," she said.
Fashion attendees were pleased with the collections.
"It was definitely worth coming. The show was fantastic, I think there was a lot of effort put into the making of the fashion week," said attendee Rand Khawaja.
Designers had the chance to show some of their work in a designated area. Among them were Jordanian designer Ghadeer Habash, who based her collection on the Dead Sea salts.
"It's called the 'Salt Collection'. And I went with my research to the molecular level, I draw some molecules and I printed out some salt ingredients like the chlorite and also I call my bags with these names like this bag is called 'calcium chlorite', another one is called 'potassium chlorite' and 'sodium chlorite," Habash explained.
