పార్టీ ఆవిర్భావ దినోత్సవంలో భాగంగా పౌరసత్వ సవరణ చట్టానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా సేవ్ నేషన్-సేవ్ కాన్స్టిట్యూషన్ ర్యాలీకి దేశవ్యాప్తంగా పిలుపిచ్చింది కాంగ్రెస్. ఆయా రాష్ట్రాల రాజధానుల్లో తిరంగ ర్యాలీలు చేపట్టారు పార్టీ ఇన్ఛార్జిలు.

పౌరసత్వ సవరణ చట్టానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా 'సేవ్ నేషన్-సేవ్ కాన్స్టిట్యూషన్' పేరిట నిరసన ర్యాలీలు చేపట్టింది కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ. ఆ పార్టీ ఆవిర్భావ దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా పిలుపునిచ్చిన ఈ ఆందోళనలు దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ఉద్ధృతంగా సాగుతున్నాయి.

అన్ని రాష్ట్రాల కాంగ్రెస్ ఇన్ఛార్జిలు ఆయా రాష్ట్రాల రాజధానుల్లో శాంతియుత నిరసనలు చేపట్టారు. దిల్లీలో కాంగ్రెస్ కార్యకర్తలు శాంతియుతంగా నిరసన ర్యాలీ నిర్వహించారు. హైదరాబాద్లో ర్యాలీకి పోలీసులు అనుమతి ఇవ్వని కారణంగా గాంధీ భవన్ వద్దే సత్యాగ్రహ దీక్షకు దిగారు కాంగ్రెస్ నేతలు.

మహారాష్ట్ర

కాంగ్రెస్ పిలుపుతో మహారాష్ట్రలో ఆ పార్టీ కార్యకర్తలు ఫ్లాగ్ మార్చ్ నిర్వహించారు. ముంబయిలోని ఆగస్ట్ క్రాంతి మైదానం నుంచి గిర్గావ్ చౌపాటిలోని లోకమాన్య తిలక్ విగ్రహం వరకు ర్యాలీ చేపట్టారు. కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రధాన కార్యదర్శి, మహారాష్ట్ర కాంగ్రెస్ ఇన్ఛార్జి మల్లికార్జున ఖర్గే సహా రాష్ట్ర కాంగ్రెస్ నేతలు ర్యాలీలో పాల్గొన్నారు.

ర్యాలీకి ముందు..

1885లో కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ ఆవిర్భవించిన ప్రదేశమైన తేజ్పాల్ హాల్లో ర్యాలీకు ముందు పార్టీ జెండాను ఆవిష్కరించారు ఖర్గే. ఆగస్ట్ క్రాంతి మైదానంలో అమరవీరులకు నివాళులు అర్పించారు.

కేరళలో

పౌరసత్వ సవరణకు వ్యతిరేకంగా నిరసనలను మరింత ఉద్ధృతం చేస్తూ కేరళలో మహా ర్యాలీ నిర్వహించింది కాంగ్రెస్. ఈ ర్యాలీకి కేంద్ర మాజీ మంత్రి చిదంబరం సహా పెద్ద ఎత్తున నేతలు, కార్యకర్తలు హాజరయ్యారు.

That's a picture of Mike Tyson at 16 years of age, Floyd Mayweather, Mark Breland and as we go around you can see there are many more pictures, all champions who trained out of Gleason's gym, we have championship belts, quite a few signatures. This belt over here is the oldest one that I have. It's from 1982: this was Juan Laporte when he won the featherweight title for the WBC."

"From our beginnings in 1937 until today we've had 136 world champions, the first being Jake La Motta, right after Jake La Motta we had a fellow by the name of Phil Terranova then the gym became quite hot so a lot of people would come into the gym and train. We currently have seven world champions training here and for the first time in our history all seven are female. The females are really coming on strong, doing very well."

"I have about 1,200 actually, just a little over 1,200 members, 400 of which are female, so one third of my boxers today are female. We have programmes here for charitable purposes. We have one group of people who have Parkinson's Disease, they train here. We have wounded veterans who train here, we have children that are in a bad place and we have them train here for free. Their organisation is called 'Give a Kid a Dream.' We're starting a programme right now for children with autism so there are many people who train here and work here and it's a huge mix, it's probably one of the last melting pots anywhere in the United States."

"My favourite story is about Muhammad Ali. So he was not able to walk up our stairs as well back then, he was starting to get Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and it was affecting his mobility. As his driver was approaching I said come around to the side of my building, I have an elevator over there and I'll meet you on the street, I'll bring him up and I'll have no problem so everybody agreed. I went down and I'm waiting for his limo (limousine) to pull up, it arrives and he's getting out of the car and as he's approaching me a young lady is walking down the street and she's talking on her cell phone and Muhammad Ali walks over to the young women, takes the cell phone from her hand, starts talking to the person on the other end, puts his arm around the lady. That's Muhammad Ali, the most famous person in the world but it's a typical boxer, someone that relates to people, likes people and I just find that to be a typical boxing person."

"The gym has five rings, we have 14,000 square feet and five rings. You can see on the walls there are more good pictures on the outside, there are banners out for a number of champions, there's a montage of pictures that rings the entire gym so it's very interesting for people when they come in. In our far corner over here we have our speed bag area, in this corner over here we have some free weights so it's a large gym and it's one that many people from around the world come to on a daily basis. We have tours here, tour buses that stop here. As I've said earlier we've done movies in here, commercials in here, so it's a very active place, it's very interesting and a place I like to be."

STORYLINE:
Located in Brooklyn's Dumbo neighbourhood is America's oldest active boxing gym - Gleason's.
A fixture in New York since 1937, the gym has been home to some of the biggest names in the sport. Bruce Silverglade has been the owner here for almost 40 years.
In its 82 years, Gleason's has produced more than its fair share of world champions with Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson among the fighters who've honed their skills there.
Gleason's isn't just for potential World Champions though, with an eclectic mix of New Yorkers and visitors coming here to learn more about the noble art.
As well as a draw for aspiring world champions, Gleason's is also a popular attraction for film fans having featured in a number of classic boxing movies, including Raging Bull and Million Dollar Baby.
