8. SOUNDBITE (English) Gemma Chan, actress - on Rotten Tomatoes shutting down their comment section because of negative comments on "Captain Marvel" ahead of its release
"Yeah I have. To be honest, that just seems like common sense to me, really. I mean you shouldn't be able to review a film before it's even been released and you haven't seen it. So, you know, it's obviously open to being just abused by people who have some kind of anger or whatever, vendetta against the film before it's even out. So yeah that makes sense to me. I'm glad they've done that."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Gemma Chan, actress - on what she thought when she saw the film
"I was, I was so excited. I really enojyed it. I think, particularly with a film like this where you do your bit and then so many other things happen after you filmed your things. There are so many special effects and and just the editing and everything else that comes into it. You know it's, other films that you're part of that you when you're filming it you can have a fairly good idea of what it's going to look like when you're filming it whereas this you know I was watching and it was just yeah it was kind of amazing because you couldn't really imagine what those bits were going to be like and it was really like experiencing it in the same way that someone else who didn't have anything to do with the film was experiencing it so. I think."

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Gemma Chan, actress - on the character's suit:
"Those suits are not comfortable at all. You know, they are, they look obviously great but they're very restrictive. They're really hard work even just to do normal moves in, let alone the fighting and everything else. So yeah it was... Even just a kind of for bathroom breaks to get out of it is like it takes two people to help you, it takes half an hour to get in and out so we'd have to coordinate our bathroom breaks together. It was just a whole ordeal and you get too hot and too cold in them. It's just yeah..."

STORYLINE:
GEMMA CHAN IS GLAD ROTTEN TOMATOES SHUT DOWN COMMENTS
Gemma Chan thinks Rotten Tomatoes has seen the light.
The review aggregator is no longer allowing the public to post reviews of a movie prior to its theatrical release. The move is partly to push back against the influence of online trolls.
The company said Tuesday (26 FEBRUARY 2019) that it is one of a series of changes, including making the "want to see" score a raw number instead of a percentage.
Previously anyone could leave written comments or reviews for a movie before its release.
Occasionally this would result in an onslaught of negativity from people who had yet to see a film. "Captain Marvel," out next week, was the most recent example.
"To be honest, that just seems like common sense to me," said "Captain Marvel" star Chan. "You shouldn't be able to review a film before it's even been released and you haven't seen it."
The superhero movie had been subjected to a barrage of negative feedback, which increased after star Brie Larson said she would like to see more inclusivity on the press tour and that she wanted to empower girls and young women.
As the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film with a female lead, it has attracted a lot of fan attention and been accused by some online commenters of identity politics.
Chan, who stars in "Captain Marvel" as alien warrior Minn-Erva, said Rotten Tomatoes was "obviously open to being just abused by people who have some kind of anger or vendetta against the film before it's even out."
"So yeah," she added, "that makes sense to me. I'm glad they've done that."
Chan stars in the movie alongside Jude Law's Yon-Rogg and Larson's Vers/Captain Marvel and features in numerous high-intensity action scenes.
She said the character's costumes looked great – but made the physically demanding set pieces difficult to perform.
"Those suits are not comfortable at all," she laughed. "They look obviously great but they're very restrictive. They're really hard work even just to do normal moves in, let alone the fighting and everything else. Even just a kind of for bathroom breaks to get out of it is like it takes two people to help you, it takes half an hour to get in and out so we'd have to coordinate our bathroom breaks together."
The rising star - maybe as a counter balance - picked a floaty gown with pockets for her appearance on the Oscars red carpet last weekend. Larson quickly followed suit at the film's London premiere in a similarly oversized, pocketed outfit.
"She's getting tips from me with the pockets. I love it," Chan said.
"We didn't actually coordinate our outfits last night, but me and Brie and Lashana we kind of got there were like 'Oh wow we have all gone for the same vibe.' It was great."
"Captain Marvel" - also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Anette Bening, Lee Pace, and Clark Gregg, is out in U.K. cinemas on March 8.
