1. UK Chancellor Philip Hammond arriving for informal Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meeting and approaching journalists, UPSOUND (English) of reporter asking about the UK's request to delay its departure from the European Union.
Hammond: "Well we want to get this done as quickly as we possibly can, but obviously we want to do it in a good and orderly way. So we have made a request to the (European) Council and we look forward to the Council's response on Wednesday."
Journalist (off-screen): "Is that feasible right now given the latest development in the UK, and how are the talks going?"
Hammond: "The conversations with the Labour Party are continuing. They were continuing last night. We are expecting to exchange some more text with the Labour Party today. So this is an ongoing process and I'm optimistic that we will reach some form of agreement later."
Journalist (off-screen): Journalist: "Do you expect more indicative votes next week in parliament?"
Hammond: "Well that will depend what we agree with the Labour Party, but we're holding every possibility open, so parliament - which should be in recess now - will be sitting next week so that if there is something for parliament to consider we can put it to parliament straight away."
2. Various of delegations with economics and finance ministers arriving
STORYLINE:
The British Chancellor of the Exchequer on Saturday said he was "optimistic that we will reach some form of agreement" in talks between government and the opposition in a bid to break the impasse on Brexit in the House of Commons.
Philip Hammond made the remarks on the sidelines of an informal Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meeting in Romania, which currently holds the presidency of the European Council.
UK prime minister Theresa May's withdrawal plan, reached with the EU over more than two years of negotiations, has been rejected by the U.K. Parliament three times.
She is now seeking a compromise in a series of talks with Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and his deputies, with hopes of winning opposition support for a new divorce deal.
The talks do not seem to be advancing.
The Labour Party said in a statement Friday it was"disappointed" that May's team was not offering real change.
If the talks don't work, May plans another series of votes in Parliament to see if a majority-backed plan can emerge.
