"Anytime you get lost in the garden, you see these magical footprints that'll lead you on your way. The cool thing is they only show up right in front of you, so you can explore, but you can't get too far ahead, which kind of brings you into the present. (video edit) As I'm moving through here, one of the things to note is that I'm seeing the same thing that everyone else is. This is a multiplayer game, effectively like a real world massively multiplayer online game and everyone is in here together. (video edit) So, when I touch this, now I can start to finger paint in a way that everyone else around me can see. I can draw my name, I can draw a heart, I can leave a message for others who come by to experience later."

"People can experience it together in the real world. It's not something like VR, where you have to close yourself out, which has a number of really amazing applications, but AR is something where you can maintain eye contact and presence in the environment. You see the people behind me are moving around comfortably, they're having a good old time. They're not getting nauseous, they're exploring their environment. And that's what people love the most about this is they can explore together."

"We use gamification and we use game mechanics for the experience, but unlike everything else at E3, we're not necessarily a game. You're not necessarily in the experience to achieve points or score in some way, but you're in the experience to really connect with your fellow participants as well as find all the elements of interactivity be it using your finger to activate your environment, or use your eye to set an intention that then opens up a quote. It's pretty extraordinary."

"It's not just bringing us closer together as people, but also connecting us with what's important in the planet, right. So, I say, sugar-coated vegetables. So use entertainment as a means to inspire an impact and do it in a way people aren't necessarily feeling like they're being converted, I guess, is one to the wrong word, but yeah. And walking away feeling inspired and connected. So, one, it brings us to each other and also to the world. I mean, we're at a point where things are going a bit sideways. So, how can we get people to care a little more ?"

Visitors to Los Angeles E3 games expo are exploring a mysterious, psychedelic garden through the power of augmented reality.
Creators of "The Unreal Garden" say it demonstrates how AR can be a social, collaborative experience.
STORYLINE:
Step inside "The Unreal Garden".
At the annual Los Angeles video game expo, E3, gamers are exploring a mysterious, psychedelic garden, through the power of augmented reality.
The 6,000 square-foot experience blends art, augmented reality, projections and soundscapes to create an out-of-this-world encounter.
It's filled with glowing plants, interactive artworks, soaring octopuses and sting rays.
"We really look at this as like the birth of a new age of experiential entertainment," says Ray Kallmeyer, the CEO of social reality platform Enklu.
"Just like cinema was new a hundred years ago, people putting nickels in the Nickelodeon machines at World's Fairs. Today, this is the birth of something new, something we can share together."
"The Unreal Garden" is the result of a collaboration between Enklu and entertainment company Onedome.
It debuted last October in San Francisco. Now, visitors to LA's E3 are getting to explore the mysterious setting.
Visitors strap on Microsoft HoloLens mixed reality headsets and explore the colourful garden.
The HoloLeans headsets track their location and head movements, meaning the AR creations appear as if they're actually there in the space.
It's even a collaborative experience. When visitors create a piece of digital AR art, all the other headset wearers can see it too.
The aim is to create a rich, social experience in augmented reality.
"People can experience it together in the real world. It's not something like VR, where you have to close yourself out, which has a number of really amazing applications, but AR is something where you can maintain eye contact and presence in the environment," says Kallmeyer.
"That's what people love the most about this is they can explore together."
Augmented reality, the blending of the virtual and physical worlds, is best known for its use in popular mobile game "Pokemon Go".
The game's developer, Niantic, is set to release a similar AR game in the coming months, this time based on the "Harry Potter" fantasy series.
"We use gamification and we use game mechanics for the experience, but unlike everything else at E3, we're not necessarily a game," says Leila Amirsadeghi from Onedome.
"You're not necessarily in the experience to achieve points or score in some way, but you're in the experience to really connect with your fellow participants."
The Electric Entertainment Expo, now simply known as 'E3', runs till June 13.
