New Delhi, Mar 15 (ANI): Supreme Court stayed Meghalaya High Court's contempt order against the Shillong Times editor Patricia Mukhim and publisher Shobha Chaudhari on Friday. While talking to mediapersons, Mukhim and Chaudhari advocate Vrinda Grover said, "The honorable Supreme Court has today stayed and issued notice on the petition filed on the behalf of publisher and editor and the sentence has been suspended." Grover also said, "The article on which the contempt was issued, was actually a fair and accurate reporting of judicial proceedings. Clearly, it is the business of the press to inform people about what is happening everywhere and what are the proceedings taking place in court." Earlier on March 8, 2019, the Meghalaya High Court had convicted and sentenced the publisher Shobha Chaudhari and the editor Patricia Mukhim of The Shillong Times for contempt of court. The Court proceeded to direct the two journalists to sit in a corner of the court until the bench rose for the day. The Court also levied a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each of them.
