ప్రతిష్టాత్మక గ్రాండ్​స్లామ్​ టోర్నీ ఆస్ట్రేలియా ఓపెన్​లో నాదల్​ కథ ముగిసింది. బుధవారం జరిగిన క్వార్టర్స్​ మ్యాచ్​లో డొమినిక్​ థీమ్(ఆస్ట్రేలియా) చేతిలో ఓటమిపాలయ్యాడు ఐదో సీడ్​ రఫేల్​ నాదల్(స్పెయిన్​)​​. ఫలితంగా ఈ మెగాటోర్నీలో సెమీఫైనల్​కు చేరాడు థీమ్​.

ఆస్ట్రేలియా ఓపెన్​లో ప్రపంచ నెం.1 రఫేల్​ నాదల్​కు షాకిచ్చాడు డొమినిక్​ థీమ్​. బుధవారం జరిగిన క్వార్టర్స్​లో 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 7-6 (8/6) తేడాతో నాదల్​ను ఓడించాడు. ఫలితంగా 20వ గ్రాండ్​స్లామ్​ గెలవాలన్న నాదల్​ ఆశలకు చెక్​ పడింది. ఇదే ప్రత్యర్థి చేతిలోనే చివరిగా ఆడిన రెండు ఫ్రెంచ్​ ఓపెన్​ ఫైనల్లోనూ ఓడిపోయాడు రఫా.

I saw looks of astonishment, a lot of questions that weren't directly posed to me. When I met Mr. Waleed at first he was bewildered. At first even I wasn't convinced. So I spoke with him and told him 'why not?'. I showed him the video of me playing and he said that he didn't realise that at this age you can display such skills, movement and flexibility. He changed from not being convinced to being encouraging and supporting, and started calling up various clubs to sign me."

"I now feel their confidence in me, as it's of course difficult for them to trust a player of my age to play alongside them. The head coach started to get convinced that I'm not a negative addition. There is a feeling that they will be playing with ten men, but I don't want them to feel that. They started to change their mind about me. I might be able to make a contribution. I don't know yet, but we'll see what will happen in our next game."

STORYLINE:
Eez Eldin Bahder on Wednesday called on FIFA to start a competition for over 40s, as he spoke to SNTV about his experience of registering as a professional football player at the age of 74.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) had registered what it believes is the oldest professional player in the world, when Bahder met with EFA officials recently.
"I showed him (refers to EFA official) the video of me playing and he said that he didn't realise that at this age you can display such skills, movement and flexibility. He changed from not being convinced to being encouraging and supporting, and started calling up various clubs to sign me," said Bahder.
A third-tier club called 6th October eventually signed the 74-year-old as he attempts to convince the head coach and teammate that he is worthy of a place in the starting eleven.
"I now feel their confidence in me, as it's of course difficult for them to trust a player of my age to play alongside them," he added.
Badher is expected to play in a third-division match and has asked for the presence of official from The Guinness Book of World Records, in a bid to have his record as the oldest professional player ratified.
