సాధారణంగా క్రికెట్ మ్యాచ్లో టాస్ ఒకసారి వేస్తారు. కాని ఆ రోజు మాత్రం రెండుసార్లు వేయాల్సి వచ్చింది. అదీ ప్రపంచకప్ మ్యాచ్లో జరగడం గమనార్హం.

వాంఖడే స్టేడియం 33 వేల మంది అభిమానులతో నిండిపోయి ఉంది. సొంతగడ్డపై ఫైనల్ మ్యాచ్ నెగ్గి 28 ఏళ్ల తర్వాత కప్పు గెలవాలని భారత జట్టు ఎదురుచూస్తోంది. ఆ మ్యాచ్లో భారత కెప్టెన్ మహేంద్ర సింగ్ ధోనీ, శ్రీలంక సారథి కుమార్ సంగక్కర టాస్ కోసం నిల్చున్నారు. ధోనీ కాయిన్‌ను పైకి విసిరిన తర్వాత రవిశాస్త్రి 'హెడ్' పడినట్లు చెప్పాడు. ధోనీ వెంటనే తాము మొదట బ్యాటింగ్ చేస్తామని తెలపగానే...ఆ విషయాన్ని నిర్ణయించుకునేందుకు రవిశాస్త్రి రిఫరీ వైపు చూశాడు. అయితే తానూ 'హెడ్' కోరుకున్నట్లు సంగక్కర చెప్పడం అయోమయ పరిస్థితికి దారితీసింది.

టాస్ వేసినప్పుడు సంగక్కర ఏం చెప్పాడనేది అభిమానుల గోలలో వినపడలేదని రిఫరీ చెప్పడం... ఈ గందరగోళానికి చెక్ పెడుతూ ఇరుజట్ల సారథులు మరోసారి టాస్ వేసేందుకు అంగీకరించారు. ధోనీ మళ్లీ టాస్ వేయగా ఈ సారి సంగక్కర 'హెడ్' అని గట్టిగా అరిచాడు. కాయిన్ హెడ్ చూపించడం వల్ల సంగక్కర బ్యాటింగ్ ఎంచుకున్నాడు.

అసలు ఇరుజట్ల సారథులు తొలుత బ్యాటింగ్ కోసం మొగ్గుచూపడానికి కారణం వాంఖడే స్టేడియంలో మొదటి బ్యాటింగ్ చేసిన వారు గెలిచే అవకాశాలుంటాయి. ఈ మ్యాచ్లో భారత్ 6 వికెట్ల తేడాతో శ్రీలంకపై గెలిచి రెండోసారి వరల్డ్ కప్‌ను అందుకుంది.

I got 500 messages this morning. I'll check later and see if there's any offer but I don't have any particular direction. What's important for me is that I still feel I am a player, and I've felt like this the whole season, even if I had injuries. I still want to play, and I think quitting now would be bad for me."

"The club is there to decide who should play and who shouldn't. We could debate for hours on how much I could have been important even making five, 10 appearances and in the dressing room because I think I'm important for them — I can't look at them (the players) otherwise I'll burst into tears — but in the end it's the club's decision. I could say that I want to be the one who decides when to stop, and next year mid-May I could tell them that I want to play for another year, and the I will say I want another year, and then another year. At some point someone has to put a stop. That's not a regret for me. The fact that we didn't talk much this season wasn't great, but long-distance communication sometimes can cause misunderstandings like that, and I hope the club will change that, I care about that because I will always be a Roma fan."

STORYLINE:
Daniele De Rossi held a news conference on Tuesday after Roman announced that he is leaving his hometown club after 18 years.
De Rossi's contract expires at the end of the season and, while a director's role was offered to him, the 35-year-old midfielder believes he still has much to contribute on the field.
All the Roma players were sat in the front rows at the news conference, wearing team jerseys with his name on the back. Forward Edin Dzeko led a standing ovation at the end and De Rossi embraced each of his soon-to-be-former teammates.
De Rossi has played in 615 matches for Roma, second on the all-time appearance list to Francesco Totti. He's also scored 63 times.
De Rossi also made 117 appearances for Italy, scoring 21 goals, and won the 2006 World Cup.
