2019 ప్రపంచకప్ విజేతపై తొలిసారి గెలవాలనుకున్న ఐర్లాండ్కు నిరాశ ఎదురైంది. తొలి ఇన్నింగ్స్లో ఇంగ్లాండ్ను 85 పరుగులకే ఆలౌట్ చేసి సంచలనం సృష్టించినా... రెండో ఇన్నింగ్స్లో తక్కువ లక్ష్యాన్ని ఛేదించే క్రమంలో పోరాటం లేకుండానే ఓడిపోయింది ఐర్లాండ్. ఫలితంగా ఏకైక టెస్టులో 143 పరుగుల తేడాతో విజయం సాధించింది రూట్ సేన.

"ఇంగ్లాండ్ను ఓడించడం ఐర్లాండ్ ఆటగాళ్లకు ఓ కల" అని తొలి ఇన్నింగ్స్ తరవాత ఆ దేశ బౌలర్ టిమ్ ముర్తా వెల్లడించిన విషయం తెలిసిందే. తొలి ఇన్నింగ్స్లో 85 పరుగులకే రూట్ సేన ఆలౌట్ అవ్వడం వల్ల... పసికూనకు కొత్త చరిత్ర సృష్టించేందుకు అవకాశం లభించింది. అయితే రెండో ఇన్నింగ్స్లో కుదుటపడిన ఇంగ్లాండ్ జట్టు 303 పరుగులు చేసి... ప్రత్యర్థి ముందు 182 పరుగుల స్వల్ప లక్ష్యమే ఉంచింది. ఈ అవకాశాన్ని వినియోగించుకోలేకపోయిన ఐర్లాండ్... కనీసం పోరాటం చేయకుండా 38 పరుగులకే చేతులెత్తేసింది.

ఇంగ్లాండ్ పేసర్ వోక్స్ 17 పరుగులే ఇచ్చి 6 వికెట్లు తీశాడు. మరో సీనియర్ పేసర్ స్టూవర్ట్ బ్రాడ్ 19 పరుగులు ఇచ్చి 4 వికెట్లు సాధించాడు. ఈ ఇద్దరు బౌలర్లే మొత్తం ఐర్లాండ్ ఇన్నింగ్స్ను ముగించేశారు. ఫలితంగా ఇంగ్లాండ్‌ 143 పరుగుల తేడాతో విజయం సాధించింది.

ఐర్లాండ్‌ ఇన్నింగ్స్‌ ఆరంభానికి ముందు కురిసిన వర్షం కారణంగా పరిస్థితులు ఇంగ్లాండ్‌ పేసర్లకు అనుకూలించాయి. బంతి విపరీతంగా స్వింగ్‌ అయింది.

STORYLINE:
A second man who was allegedly questioned in the case of a slain policeman was driven from a police station in Rome in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was taken away by a Carabinieri police car and escorted by two more police cars.
A young American tourist has confessed to fatally stabbing an Italian paramilitary policeman who was investigating the theft of a bag and cellphone before dawn Friday, the Italian news agency ANSA and state radio reported.
ANSA, citing unidentified investigators, said two American tourists allegedly snatched the bag of a drug dealer who had swindled them.
It said the owner called police to say he had arranged a meeting with the thieves to get back his bag and phone.
When two plainclothes officers arrived at the rendezvous site in Rome's Prati neighborhood at about 3 a.m., there was a scuffle during which Carabinieri paramilitary officer Mario Cerciello Rega was stabbed eight times, ANSA said.
RAI state radio reported early Saturday that the two tourists are 19 years old and had been seen on video surveillance cameras apparently running away with the bag, which was stolen in another neighborhood, Trastevere, which is very popular with young Italians and foreigners for its night life.
The Carabinieri police corps did not immediately confirm the alleged confession.
