1. SOUNDBITE (Sinhala) Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka:
"I would like to express my condolences to the families of victims and those injured in the attacks that took place in the country today. I see this as a major crisis that will lead the country and its economy toward instability. I strongly condemn these attacks that targeted religious sites and luxury hotels. All of us must uphold the law of the land. I have already instructed the Secretary of Defence, commanders of the tri-forces as well as the Inspector General of police to take immediate legal action in this regard. The President (Maithripala Sirisena) and I are currently discussing with other ministers on further action that needs to be taken. We will take stern action against all those who are responsible for these attacks regardless of their stature. We will vest all necessary powers with the defence forces. Let's remain patient during this national crisis."
