STORYLINE:
TANYA TUCKER: IT'S NOT A COMEBACK, IT'S A RELAUNCH
Country music icon Tanya Tucker is releasing her first album of new material in 17 years later this summer, but she said it's not a comeback--it's a relaunch.
"Well, I don't really like that word," Tucker said recently at the 2019 CMT Awards. "I never went nowhere. I prefer to call it a relaunch."
The idea for the new album came originally from the son of another icon, Waylon Jennings. Shooter Jennings asked Tucker if she wanted to work on a new album with him as the producer and he suggested it also to his friend and past collaborator, Brandi Carlile.
"I am a massive Tanya Tucker fan," said the Grammy-winning Carlile. "Massive. Since I was a very little girl, actually. I think that Tanya Tucker has maybe, arguably the most valuable voice in country music--man or woman--because she sounds tough."
Carlile and Jennings worked as producers on the album, titled "While I'm Livin'." The record will be out 23 August.
The new album has sparked some discussion about the fact that Tucker, who has been charting songs on country radio since she was 13 years old, has not been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. However, Carlile wants to see that changed.
"I won't rest until she is," Carlile said. "I can't live in a world where Tanya Tucker is not in the Country Music Hall of Fame."
