1. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister (on Saudi oil attack):
"The (French) president of the republic expressed his solidarity to the (Saudi) crown prince because when a country is attacked like this we must defend it and show support. Today, Saudi Arabia has initiated an international investigation to check where the attack came from and possibly draw the consequences."
(Journalist: "Who? Is Iran behind this attack?")
Le Drian: "I don't have … The rebel Houthis in Yemen said it was them who launched this intervention. It is not very credible but, as there is an international investigation, let's wait for the results. We have sent experts in order to have our own opinion, to identify…"
(Journalist: "What is your opinion?")
Le Drian: "I don't have any particular opinion before getting the results."

3. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister (on Iran):
"When I say that Iran must come back to the Vienna agreement, it is a demand because otherwise we are in a slide with all the risks that it can imply. Imagine what would happen if Iran had the nuclear weapon today, with the current situation in the Gulf region, with the seriousness of the facts we talked about. So Iran must come back in the agreement, get the financial benefit of the agreement, and we must be able to talk about the rest. We must talk about the rest with Iran."

5. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister (on Edward Snowden):
"He (Edward Snowden) had requested political asylum in France and elsewhere as well in 2013. At the time, France has considered that it wasn't appropriate. I don't see what has changed today on a judicial or political point of view."
(Journalist: "So no?")
Le Drian: "No. For the moment it's a request among others via some media but I don't see any reason to change our mind."

STORYLINE
France's top diplomat is expressing doubt at claims by rebel Houthis in Yemen that they launched recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Thursday on CNews television that the claims are "not very credible."
He would not speculate on who was responsible, but reiterated that France sent its own experts to Saudi Arabia to investigate what happened.
Le Drian urged Iran to respect the 2015 accord with world powers curbing its nuclear activities and "come back to the table" to restore calm in the increasingly tense Persian Gulf region.
He said France is talking to "everyone in the region" as it pushes for a diplomatic solution instead of a new military conflict.
Le Drian also expressed hope that US authorities allow Iran's president a visa for the UN General Assembly next week.
U.S. and Saudi Arabia suspect Iran was behind Saturday's attack on the world's largest oil processing facility and a major oil field.
France's foreign minister also said "it's not the time" to grant a new asylum request from former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.
Snowden has been living in Russia to escape U.S. prosecution after leaking classified documents detailing government surveillance programs.
Asking France again for asylum this week, he argued that "protecting whistleblowers is not a hostile act."
Le Drian told CNews television Thursday that when Snowden first asked for French asylum in 2013, the French government "considered it was not the time. I don't see what has changed."
Snowden has also sought asylum in several other countries. His memoir was released in about 20 countries this week, including France.
