ప్రముఖ కొరియోగ్రాఫర్​ రాఘవ లారెన్స్​ సేవా కార్యక్రమాల్లో ఎప్పుడూ ముందుంటాడు. గతేడాది గజ తుపాను ధాటికి ఓ బామ్మ ఆశ్రయం కోల్పోయింది. తాజాగా ఆమెకు సాయం చేసి మళ్లీ తన ధాతృత్వాన్ని చాటుకున్నాడు.

"I'm interested in making films that are not solely, that they are not really realistic films but more surrealist films. So the setting has artificial style. Also the storytelling is a bit like a fairy tale. The red flowers is maybe also even a symbol for happiness. People who smell the flower are supposed to be happy. Emily is a scientist who invented that plant. I would say the film is sort of a Frankenstein story and at least the scientist is Frankenstein and she creates that little monster, the red flower. But it's also about her child, her son, Who is maybe the other monster that she created. "

"Well Jessica's films are really unique so it's interesting that they've all got their own personality. She's got a very distinctive, almost her own genre. So it's very interesting to work in that way and to follow her lead. And she always has an interesting angle and interesting ideas for each scene and the dynamics between the characters and all the little nuances that are going on between them and the power shifts. So I thought that was really interesting."

"The soundtrack or the music. It's not a real soundtrack because it existed before. So I pick the music even before we started the shooting. When I was drawing the little storyboard images, I already thought about that specific music. I liked it because Teiji Ito was also the composer for films of Maya Deren. She was an experimental filmmaker in the 1940s in the US and I like her films very much. I feel related to her and her films create a dreamlike, odd atmosphere and I thought that his music is part of it. So I immediately thought 'OK that Japanese music could add a very, yeah, adds suspense and tension but it's all so very strange so it's irritating and it makes you think 'What is this now? Is it a thriller or is it not?' I mean, 'Is this a sci fi or is it not? What is it? What does it want to be?' And I'm very much interested in creating those question marks. "

STORYLINE:
DIRECTOR JESSICA HAUSNER AND ACTRESS EMILY BEECHAM DISCUSS THEIR FANTASY DRAMA "LITTLE JOE"
Austrian director Jessica Hausner will not make her films easy.
In her latest film, "Little Joe" in which she explores the life of a single mother, who is a plant breeder, Hausner creates a surrealist fable with the help of a soundtrack by cult Japanese composer Teiji Ito.
"When I was drawing the little storyboard images, I already thought about that specific music. I liked it because Teiji Ito was also the composer for films of Maya Deren. She was an experimental filmmaker in the 1940s in the US and I like her films very much. I feel related to her and her films create a dreamlike, odd atmosphere and I thought that his music is part of it," she explained her inspiration for her Cannes in competition entry.
"So I immediately thought 'OK that Japanese music could add a very yeah, adds suspense and tension' but it's all so very strange so it's irritating and it makes you think 'What is this now? Is it a thriller or is it not?' I mean, 'Is this a sci fi or is it not? What is it? What does it want to be?' And I'm very much interested in creating those question marks. "
Emily Beecham, who plays the main character say the appeal for her was Hausner's unusual vision.
"Jessica's films are really unique so it's interesting that they've all got their own personality. She's got a very distinctive, almost her own genre. So it's very interesting to work in that way and to follow her lead."
"Little Joe" also stars Ben Whishaw and Lindsay Duncan and is among the 21 films in competition at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
