"I guess technically they heard it. Whether they understood me, whether they agree with me or to what extent they agreed with me, I have no idea. I hope at least what I said will stay with them a little bit. That at least they would think about it a little bit. And then we'll see."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Liu Xin, CGTN anchor(partially overlaid with shot 5):
"That's a big question for me as well. Maybe because they think that they are suffering some losses. Maybe there are some cases in the press which gave them the impression, I do not know. Maybe they think that the Chinese are not capable of innovating on ourselves. Maybe. Maybe there are misunderstanding or ignorance about China. Or maybe there are people who are intentionally creating the kind of impression. I think it's a whole host of factors. And I think what you just said for instance, what China has done to protect IP. I think this kind of information probably didn't get through to the other side of the Pacific so much so people don't know what China would do, has been doing, in IP."

"There are companies who are infringing on other people's IP rights. Then go a deal with it according to due procedures, but don't exaggerate, don't generalize. I think one of the biggest things that I've noticed about some of these media is that they tend to make very broad statements and they tend to make assumptions before they have the facts. You know, you can also see that, I heard that when she was interviewing the Venezuelan guest before my interview came on. A lot of things she said you could tell that she was already assumed that this or that was the case and then she asked a question on top of that. I'm not saying she is the only who does that. There are many other journalists maybe possibly in my show I, without knowing, probably have also done that. I think it is a common question that all of us have to deal with."

"I think we need to be open-minded. And I think that is the only thing I ask myself and I hope to make people realize while I'm talking to people, be open-minded, be fair, give people the benefit of the doubt, right. Because you can be only gain from that perspective, But if you do the opposite, you are going to lose."
10. Various of animation of China's progress in IP protection
Answering a call from Twitter, a Chinese news anchor opened a channel of communication with her U.S. counterpart to talk through assumptions created by a lack of open mindedness.
China Global Television Network (CGTN) anchor Liu Xin agreed to a discussion with her counterpart Trish Regan from U.S. Fox News on Thursday.
Liu agreed to come onto Trish Regan Primetime after being asked by Regan herself on Twitter last week. This is the first ever live TV show that anchors of China and the U.S. expressed their opinions on the trade dispute together.
Before the discussion, many were anticipating a debate between the two anchors, but Liu said she never expected a debate, but a chat to speak about her ideas on the trade dispute.
"I guess technically they heard it. Whether they understood me, whether they agree with me or to what extent they agreed with me, I have no idea. I hope at least what I said will stay with them a little bit. That at least they would think about it a little bit. And then we'll see," said Liu during an interview with her colleague at CGTN after finishing the talk with Regan.
Liu talked about China protecting intellectual rights during the discussion, and said some people have certain assumptions about China before they get any of the facts.
"That's a big question for me as well. Maybe because they think that they are suffering some losses. Maybe there are some cases in the press which gave them the impression, I do not know. Maybe they think that the Chinese are not capable of innovating on ourselves. Maybe there are misunderstanding or ignorance about China. Or maybe there are people who are intentionally creating the kind of impression. I think it's a whole host of factors. And I think what you just said for instance, what China has done to protect IP. I think this kind of information probably didn't get through to the other side of the Pacific so much so people don't know what China would do, has been doing, in IP," said Liu.
In the meantime, Liu hoped the media could play a better role in providing facts to the public, instead of misleading them with stereotypes.
A lot of things she said you could tell that she was already assumed that this or that was the case and then she asked a question on top of that," she said.
Liu also said that it is something that she and other journalists need to actively work on to make sure stereotypes and assumptions don't take control of their interviews.
"I'm not saying she is the only one who does that. There are many other journalists maybe possibly in my show I, without knowing, probably have also done that. I think it is a common question that all of us have to deal with," said Liu.
To avoid any misconceptions and biases, Liu called on the public to be more open minded.
"I think we need to be open-minded. And I think that is the only thing I ask myself and I hope to make people realize while I'm talking people, be open-minded, be fair, give people the benefit of the doubt, right. Because you can be only gain from that perspective, But if you do the opposite, you are going to lose," said Liu.
China has made great strides in its efforts to protect intellectual property rights. The country became the second-largest source of international patent applications filed with the UN in 2017. That same year, China was the only country to have recorded double-digit annual growth in patent applications.
Two Chinese tech companies, Huawei and ZTE, were the top global filers of international patent applications, followed by Intel, Mitsubishi and Qualcomm.
China's Supreme People's Court also started hearing IPR appeals in 2019. It also set up a special IPR court to handle complex patent cases.
