రవాణా సదుపాయాల్లో భాగంగా క్యాబ్​లు ఆశ్రయిస్తున్న మహిళలకు చేదు అనుభవాలు తప్పట్లేదు. డ్రైవర్ల అనుచిత, అసభ్య ప్రవర్తనలపై ఇప్పటికే ఎన్నో ఫిర్యాదులు రాగా.. తాజాగా బాలీవుడ్​ నటి సోనమ్​ కపూర్​ ఈ జాబితాలో చేరింది. అందుకే క్యాబ్​ డ్రైవర్లతో జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండాలని చెబుతూనే.. ప్రజా రవాణా శ్రేయస్కరమని సూచించింది.

డ్రైవర్‌ తనపై విపరీతంగా అరిచాడని.. ఫలితంగా మధ్యలోనే తాను క్యాబ్‌ దిగిపోవాల్సి వచ్చిందని చెప్పింది సోనమ్. ఈ అమ్మడు ట్వీట్​కు ఉబర్​ స్పందించి తక్షణమే చర్యలు తీసుకుంటామని తెలిపింది. అయితే ఈ నటి ట్వీట్​కు అభిమానులు భారీగా స్పందిస్తున్నారు. గతంలో ఉబర్​ సేవలను లండన్​లో నిషేధించిన విషయాన్ని గుర్తుచేసుకున్నారు.

క్యాబ్‌ డ్రైవర్లపై ఫిర్యాదులతో విసిగిపోయిన ఉబర్​ సంస్థ.. తన యాప్​లో సరికొత్త ఫీచర్​ను ప్రవేశపెట్టేందుకు సిద్ధమౌతోంది. 'వాయిస్‌ ఆడియో రికార్డింగ్‌' ఫీచర్‌ ద్వారా డ్రైవర్, ప్రయాణికుల మధ్య జరిగే సంభాషణలను ఎప్పటికప్పుడు రికార్డు చేయనున్నట్లు తెలిపింది. ప్రస్తుతం ప్రయోగాత్మకంగా పరిశీలిస్తున్నారు.

Vegetarianism is unusual in Japan with restaurants and food stores providing few options for those who don't eat meat.
But as the country prepares to welcome tens of millions of foreign tourists for this year's Olympics, it faces the challenge of catering to those with dietary restrictions.
STORYLINE:
Aoyama farmers' market in Tokyo is brimming with vegetables.
It's a shoppers' paradise for people who don't eat meat.
But catering for vegetarian diets is not always easy in Japan, where meat-free options at restaurants and food stores are limited.
Jasmine Ortlieb browses the stalls - she's been a vegetarian since she was 13 years-old.
She's American but lives in Tokyo and finds following her diet difficult here.
"It's still an issue, being vegetarian in Japan," she says.
"It is very inconvenient, not just for myself but for my friends. I have some vegetarian friends, but the majority are not. So if we want to eat somewhere together, then I have to find a place that has a vegetarian menu or I have to, I guess change what I want to eat on that day."
In November, the government launched a parliamentary committee to address the problems vegetarian visitors could face.
It will consider whether public funds could be used to support restaurants and food stores to accommodate their needs.
Politicians admit not enough has been done to provide for those dietary requirements.
"Compared to the strategy of catering halal products, there are not enough preparations for vegetarians so we need to develop our strategy for public education," says Jin Matsubara, a member of the House of Representatives and former Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety.
As the Tokyo Olympics approaches later this year, Japan hopes to welcome around 40 million foreign tourists this year.
They are predicted to spend 8 trillion yen ($73 billion).
Many will come from cultures when vegetarianism and veganism are widely accepted - and they will expect their food preferences to be catered for.
Taiki Hari is CEO of Frembassy which runs a website for people with dietary restrictions.
He's sceptical that Japanese society will be able to cope well with vegetarian visitors.
"The biggest problem is the fact that Japanese restaurants and hotels have no understanding of vegetarianism, even less of veganism," he says.
"So many vegetarians, especially foreign vegetarian visitors, have a problem of eating in Japan."
Much of Japanese cuisine contains meat or fish products, even if it is not immediately obvious.
The broths that form the basis for many dishes, from miso soups to sauces, is often made with fish.
So Jin Matsubara wants to introduce a method of identifying food that is suitable for vegetarians.
"We would like foreigners to feel safe and satisfied to eat Japanese foods," he says.
"It is my dream to produce high quality, strictly defined vegetarian foods in Japan. In terms of certification, there are also some institutions and companies who provide marks and certificates for the identification of vegetarian products."
The parliamentary committee's goal is to draw up the guideline by compiling measures in the coming months and provide it to relevant organizations.
But the implementation of official standard certification might not be ready in time for the Olympics in July.
For vegetarians living in Japan, the ability to try more foods would be a huge positive.
"I think being more flexible with the menu and trying something new in a Japanese way, still using high-quality ingredients but changing seafood to vegetables, something like that would be one more way to show to the world how hospitable and how welcoming Japan is," says Ortlieb.
For now though, she will have to stick to shopping at the vegetable markets.
