4. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Nicola Borri, Professor of Financial Economics, LUISS:
"So financial markets like stability. So, I think financial markets would be happy with a government that, for example, puts together a lot political parties and that at least pass a budget law."
5. Various of the Italian stock exchange website on a computer screen showing charts comparing Italian and German bonds
6. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Nicola Borri, Professor of Financial Economics, LUISS:
"So far it seems that the negative effect of the announcement of Premier (Giuseppe) Conte of the dissolution of the majority is on the cost of the Italian debt. It went up on Friday, in the aftermath of the news, and it is still high today, and it doesn't seem to decrease. On the other hand, the stockmarket is volatile. It went down a lot last Friday, it is going up today, but it didn't recover the value that it had before this announcement."
7. Close of article on FitchRatings.com, reading (English): "Fitch Affirms Italy at BBB; Outlook Negative"
8. Close of FitchRatings.com chart showing Italy's rating at BBB
9. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Nicola Borri, Professor of Financial Economics, LUISS:
"I think it's very probable that if the political uncertainty continues and if the Italian economy continues to be in a phase of stagnation like the current one, that Fitch and as well as the other credit rating agencies will revise downwards their ratings. Credit ratings measures the probability of default ahead of time, so in 3 to 5 years from now. And the fact that the Italian economy is not growing, the fact that there is a lot of political uncertainty, the fact that it seems likely that in the future there could be a government that is anti-Europe, so all of these are factors that are not seen favourably by credit rating agencies."

11. Wide of bank branch Banca di Roma in the centre of Rome
12. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Daria Tamburelli, Rome resident:
"I think the economic situation will remain stable for now, and nothing will change. Then, when the elections are held, we'll see. But in my opinion, nothing is going to change. It would be counterproductive for both the Five Star Movement and the (Northern) League."

14.SOUNDBITE (Italian) Giorgio Gaudenzi, student in Rome:
"Certainly with an increase in VAT the power of purchase will decrease, but it will consequently drag down the middle class and the lower income class, which maybe would vote for the League the most. This might even cause the opposite effect. "

STORYLINE:
Political uncertainty is adding new layers of economic difficulty to Italy's slow growth and high public debt, as Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced on Friday the termination of his government.
Following Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's announcement Thursday that his League party no longer supports Conte, Milan's stock market plunged by 2.48 percent.
The Italian government borrowing costs have also fallen by 240 points since Friday.
Party leaders and group representatives met behind closed doors on Monday afternoon to determine when a crucial vote of no-confidence will be held.
The government is obliged to resign if it loses a confidence vote on it.
By EU rules, Italy is mandated to pass a budget law by December, and also send to Brussels early documents by the end of September and October.
Credit rating agency FITCH confirmed Italy's "BBB" rank on Friday, with a negative outlook.
According to the agency, the next Italian government would have to abide by EU budget requirements to avoid further deteriorating its ranking.
But political observers fear that a government led by anti-EU League leader Matteo Salvini would not place those requirements at the top of the political agenda.
