370 రద్దుతో భారత్తో నెలకొన్న ఉద్రిక్తతల నేపథ్యంలో సైన్యాధ్యక్షుడి పదవీకాలాన్ని పొడగిస్తూ పాకిస్థాన్ కీలక నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది. ప్రాంతీయ భద్రత దృష్ట్యా ఈ నిర్ణయాన్ని తీసుకున్నట్లు పాక్ ప్రధాని కార్యాలయం ప్రకటించింది.

పాకిస్థాన్ ఆర్మీ చీఫ్ మేజర్ ఖమర్ జావెద్ భజ్వా పదవీ కాలాన్ని పొడిగిస్తూ ఆ దేశ ప్రధాని ఇమ్రాన్‌ఖాన్ కీలక నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నారు. ఆర్టికల్ 370 రద్దు తర్వాత భారత్, పాకిస్తాన్ మధ్య ఉద్రిక్తతలు నెలకొన్న నేపథ్యంలో పాక్ ప్రకటన చర్చనీయాంశంగా మారింది.

"జనరల్ భజ్వా సైన్యాధ్యక్షడి పదవీ కాలాన్ని మరో 3 ఏళ్లు పెంచుతున్నాం. ప్రస్తుత పదవీ కాలం పూర్తయిన తేదీ నుంచి ఈ నిర్ణయం అమలులోకి వస్తుంది. ప్రాంతీయ భద్రతా పరిస్థితుల దృష్ట్యా ప్రధాని ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నారు."

త్వరలోనే ముగియనున్న జావెద్ భజ్వా పదవీకాలాన్ని మరో ఏడాదిపాటు పొడిగించాలని తొలుత భావించారు ఇమ్రాన్. అయితే మూడేళ్ల పాటు పెంచాలన్న భజ్వా ఒత్తిడి మేరకు ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నట్లు సమాచారం.

ఆర్టికల్ 370 రద్దు నిర్ణయాన్ని మేజర్ జావెద్ భజ్వా తీవ్రంగా తప్పుబట్టారు. కశ్మీరీలకు పాకిస్థాన్ అండంగా ఉంటుందని గతంలో చెప్పారు. వారి స్వాతంత్ర్య పోరాటానికి పాకిస్థాన్ సైన్యం మద్దతునిస్తుందని వ్యాఖ్యానించారు.

STORYLINE:
At least 66 people were wounded in a series of explosions in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday as the country marked Independence Day.
The deputy spokesman for the provincial governor said at least 10 blasts occurred in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.
Most of the wounded sustained minor injuries and were released from hospital after treatment, he added.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but both the Taliban and the local affiliate of the Islamic State group are active in Nangarhar province.
The Jalabad explosions came as Afghanistan continued to mourn at least 63 people, including children, killed in a bombing at a wedding hall in Kabul late on Saturday.
That attack was claimed by the local IS affiliate and in his Independence Day speech on Monday, Afghanistan's president vowed to "eliminate" all safe havens of the extremist fighters.
