'జలియన్వాలా' అమరులకు ఘన నివాళులు

జలియన్వాలా బాగ్ మారణకాండ మృతులకు కాంగ్రెస్ అధ్యక్షుడు రాహుల్ గాంధీ నివాళులు అర్పించారు. అమృత్సర్లోని స్మారక స్థూపానికి పుష్పగుచ్చం సమర్పించారు. బ్రిటిష్ హైకమిషనర్ డొమినిక్ అస్కిత్ అమరులకు శ్రద్ధాంజలి ఘటించారు.

జలియన్వాలాబాగ్ ఊచకోత ఘటన జరిగి నేటికి శతాబ్దం గడిచింది. ఈ సందర్భంగా అమరులకు నివాళులర్పించారు కాంగ్రెస్ అధ్యక్షుడు రాహుల్ గాంధీ. అమృత్సర్లోని జలియన్వాలాబాగ్ స్మారక స్థూపానికి పుష్పాంజలి ఘటించారు. రెండు నిమిషాలు మౌనం పాటించారు.

"స్వాతంత్ర్య సాధన కోసం జీవితాలను పణంగా పెట్టిన గొప్ప వ్యక్తుల త్యాగాలను దేశం ఎప్పటికీ మరువదు." అని సందర్శకుల పుస్తకంలో రాశారు రాహుల్.

బ్రిటిష్ హై కమిషనర్ డొమినిక్ అస్కిత్ జలియన్ వాలా బాగ్ మృతులకు స్మారక స్థూపం వద్ద నివాళులర్పించారు.

"100 ఏళ్ల క్రితం నాటి జలియన్ వాలా బాగ్ ఘటన భారత్లో బ్రిటిష్ పాలనకు మాయని మచ్చ. అప్పుడు జరిగిన ఘటనకు మేం విచారం వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నాం. ప్రస్తుతం లండన్, భారత్ పరస్పర సహకారంతో అభివృద్ధి దిశలో ముందుకు సాగుతున్నందుకు సంతోషంగా ఉంది.' అని సందర్శకుల పుస్తకంలో రాశారు అస్కిత్.

1919, ఏప్రిల్ 13న అమృతసర్లోని జలియన్ వాలాబాగ్లో నిరాయుధులైన స్వాతంత్య్రోద్యమకారులపై బ్రిటిష్ దళాలు విచక్షణా రహితంగా కాల్పులకు తెగబడ్డాయి. తూటాల గాయాలతో పాటు, తొక్కిసలాటలో అనేక మంది భారతీయులు మృతి చెందారు.

STORYLINE:
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is open to a third summit with President Donald Trump, according to state-run media.
But he has set the year's end as a deadline for Washington to offer mutually acceptable terms for an agreement to salvage the high-stakes nuclear diplomacy, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
Kim made the comments during a speech on Friday at a session of North Korea's rubber-stamp parliament, which made a slew of personnel changes that bolstered his diplomatic lineup amid stalemated negotiations with the United States.
KCNA said Kim blamed the collapse of the Hanoi summit in February on what he described as unilateral demands by the United States, which he said raised questions over whether Washington has genuine willingness to improve relations.
But he said his personal relationship with the US president remained good and that they could exchange letters at "any time".
During the speech, Kim also made a nationalistic call for South Korea to support the North's positions more strongly and criticised Seoul for acting like an "overstepping mediator" between Washington and Pyongyang.
KCNA also reported that Kim was reelected as chairman of the State Affairs Commission, the nation's most important decision-making body, during the session of the Supreme People's Assembly.
It also published a list of other officials elected to top state posts, including Choe Ryong Hae, one of Kim's top lieutenants, who was made president of the assembly's Presidium.
Choe was also elected to first vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission, a new post.
His election to head the presidium means the departure of 91-year-old Kim Yong Nam, who has served all three generations of the ruling Kim family.
His retirement had long been expected due to his age.
Three of the four senior officials involved in the nuclear negotiations with the US have been re-elected or newly elected to members of Kim Jong Un's state commission, including former military intelligence chief Kim Yong Chol.
Kim had travelled to Washington and met Trump twice ahead of the North Korean leader's two summits with the president last year, but his fate had been the focus of South Korean media speculation since the second summit ended without any agreement.
