TVNZ - NO ACCESS NEW ZEALAND
Wellington - 20 March 2019
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Bush, New Zealand Police Commissioner:
(Reporter question: When you say that police officers stopped him on the way to potentially another attack, have you identified somewhere that you think that he was going?)
"Yes but I'm not going to go into those details. I don't wish to traumatise others. So that will form part of the court case. But we absolutely believe we know where he was going and we intervened on the way."
(Reporter: And was it somewhere where there were a lot of people?)
"I can't answer that question."
(Reporter: Was it another mosque?")
"I can't go into that detail."
++ENDS ON SOUNDBITE++
STORYLINE:
New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush said on Wednesday he believes police officers stopped the gunman who killed 50 people at two mosques on his way to another attack.
Bush said they believe they know where the gunman was going but would not say more because it is an active investigation.
In a 74-page manifesto he released before the attack, the accused Australian gunman said he was going to attack mosques in Christchurch and Linwood, and then one in the town of Ashburton if he made it that far.
