The Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets will play two pre-season games in October at the Saitama Super Arena - the basketball venue for next year's Tokyo Olympic Games.
It follows an announcement in the Japanese capital on Tuesday.
The NBA has staged 12 regular-season games in Japan, with the Utah Jazz taking on the Phoenix Suns in the first of those match-ups in 1990.
According to the NBA, it was the first regular-season game from any U.S. sports league to be played outside of North America.
The Rockets played two regular-season games in Japan in 1992, while the Raptors will be visiting the country for the first time.
Houston are currently led by James Harden and Chris Paul, while Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, and Marc Gasol are the stars in Toronto's line-up.
