1. SOUNDBITE (Dutch) Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister:
"Relatively good news tonight. It is of course not all .... it is not all great, and this whole process remains very difficult, but I think that we managed to avert a crash this week or next week."

2. SOUNDBITE (Dutch) Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister:
"But even if they (UK) had not a single idea how to resolve it, and all the agreements do not work for them, and they also leave all the red lines unchanged, and the Withdrawal Agreement has been rejected, I assume that they'd still be interested in time to give form to a departure, even a departure without a deal. They could come up with proposals for this. Of course, we hope that they will come up with proposals to get a soft Brexit, and they have time to do so until 2 May, or anyway until 30 June at the latest. "

3. SOUNDBITE (Dutch) Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister:
"We can't do anything else - we've been doing this for two years now - but place the problem again on the doorstep of the British parliament and Downing Street and say 'look, it's still here. We want to do everything in our power to facilitate maximum solutions within the red lines indicated by you.' But this becomes more difficult as these red lines get more concrete, turn dark red. And they're quite dark red at this moment."

STORYLINE:
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said early on Friday the outcome of lengthy talks between European Union leaders and the UK prime minister "managed to avert a crash this week or next week".
The EU27 grudgingly late on Thursday offered the UK more time to ease itself out of the bloc, delaying by several weeks - but not eliminating - the threat of a chaotic British exit.
After a meeting that stretched through the afternoon and over dinner, the bloc said Britain could postpone its 29 March departure to 22 May - if the UK parliament approved Prime Minister Theresa May's divorce deal with the EU next week.
