3. SOUNDBITE (English) Peter IseIy, clergy sexual abuse survivor, founding member of Ending Clergy Abuse:
"It's a success for survivors of clergy sexual abuse, and we're getting survivors from the around the world that are now contacting our organisation, 'Ending Clergy Abuse' - beginning the process of coming forward and of healing. So that's been an enormous success. And I think we've brought out our message to the world. And I think that we have shown how important the voices of survivors is in this issue and that we have something to say and that we need to be engaged with this issue by Pope Francis and the Vatican."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Peter IseIy, clergy sexual abuse survivor, founding member of Ending Clergy Abuse:
"And this is about child sex trafficking in the Catholic Church but they are not trafficking the child, they are trafficking the offender. Because what you are doing by hiding them and transferring them to parishes and schools, secretly to new assignments, is sex trafficking. I will say it again. You are not trafficking the child, you are trafficking the offender. And I don't know of any other organisation on earth that is doing that."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Peter IseIy, clergy sexual abuse survivor, founding member of Ending Clergy Abuse:
"There is nothing in his remarks about releasing documents that demonstrate the truth of how they are and have been covering up child sex crimes. So what that is, is secrecy. So, if he is against secrecy about cover-ups, on Monday morning, we'd be seeing those archives and criminal evidence released."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Marco Politi, Senior Vatican Analyst and Author:
"The summit was very important. It was a sort of crash course for the episcopates of all the world because we know that 90 percent of the bishops' conferences all over the world have not put into action the best practices. There is only a handful of bishop conferences in Germany and the United States, in England and Wales, in Ireland and Austria. But the rest practically have not been effective all those years. So it was important to speak about concreteness, to say that norms are needed, that you must inform the victims of the procedure, that the procedure must be quick and also it was important to speak about the accountability of the bishops. Because many bishops have made a cover-up and some bishops are also personally responsible for abuses in their past."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Marco Politi, Senior Vatican Analyst and Author:
"The means of this conference is that on the eve of the conference, the Pope – speaking to journalists on the flight from Panama to Rome – said it was important to foster awareness, but also to set up protocols. So the conclusion of the conference, if there is not a last minutes surprise, is that these protocols are not yet ready. So it is very important that in the next week there are working guidelines for all the Church. Because also the Pope in his last speech was now saying it's important to have rules, not indications, and it is important to bring to justice every culprit. This means also to bring it to the civil justice, not just to make ecclesiastical procedure. So now the public opinion is waiting, not only the victims but the good Catholics, and also the non-Catholics who believe in the role or who are interested in the role of the church, and the social role and the moral role of the church, are now waiting for precise norms and rules."

STORYLINE:
As Pope Francis closed out his extraordinary summit on preventing clergy sex abuse on Sunday, survivors and analysts say that although the gathering was an important step, the Vatican now needs to follow up with precise guidelines for bishops on how to handle cases of sexual abuse.
Peter Isely, one of the founding members of Ending Clergy Abuse, a worldwide organisation of human rights activists and abuse survivors called the summit success for survivors.
But he lamented the absence in Francis' closing remarks on Sunday of anything "about releasing documents that demonstrate the truth of how they are and have been covering up child sex crimes."
Vatican analyst Marco Politi, meanwhile, said he believed that the summit had been a important step for the church as to this day "90 percent of the bishops' conferences all over the world have not put into action the best practices" for protecting children in the church.
He also underlined the importance on clear guidelines from the Vatican going forward.
"Also the Pope in his last speech was now saying it's important to have rules, not indications, and it is important to bring to justice every culprit," he said.
