STORYLINE:
Following the shooting at a Florida high school, students like Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg became household names in the US.
The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland killed 17 students and staff members and roused a group of young activists who sought to make gun violence a generational issue for younger voters.
Behind the scenes, siblings Ryan and Matt Deitsch have spend the past year working with a dozen others to keep the grassroots gun control campaign going.
The Deitsch brothers have put college on hold.
"I can't just go off to college and leave this all behind because we are in the position to actually make a difference," said Ryan Deitsch. "We are in this position whether we asked for it or not, this is where we're at."
The movement was born following a disappointing visit with lawmakers in Tallahassee and Washington.
"If they had pretended to be competent and that they were fighting for our lives, that they were working to protect us, March For Our Lives, would have never have existed," said Matt Deitsch.
"After that time in DC where we exposed to the inner working of our legislator, we realised we had to do so much more."
The group, organized and led mostly by teenagers has managed to receive seven figure donations from celebrities and coordinating PSA's with Hollywood A-listers.
The group claims credit for helping pass dozens of new laws in the months after the shooting resulting in a children's peace prize, awarded by Desmond Tutu in South Africa.
"I think it's absolutely insane, I don't think anyone can explain the political journey we've been thrust onto," said Ryan Deitsch.
