Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xi said Ethiopia is an important cooperative partner of China. Both China and Ethiopia are big developing countries and the two countries should all rely on its own efforts to blaze a new trail for development according to their national conditions, said Xi.
Xi said, China supports Ethiopia in its efforts to maintain stability, develop economy and improve people's livelihood.
China stands ready to keep the momentum of high-level exchanges, continue to understand and support each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns, push forward the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, help Ethiopia upgrade its industries to a higher level and enhance its capabilities of export, said Xi.
The two countries should close their coordination in such international and regional issues such as climatic change and situation in horn of Africa, he added.
China is willing to take the opportunities of jointly building the Belt and Road and implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Ethiopia so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples, said Xi.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described China as his second hometown and Ethiopia's most reliable, the most cherished friend.
Abiy said the Ethiopian people congratulate China on its 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and will always bear in mind China's invaluable assistance and support.
Ethiopia stands ready to take the opportunity of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China next year to continuously strengthen its friendly ties with China and positively participate in the Belt and Road construction, he added.
