"(We) got in the tent and at night the storm hit. Just really high winds breaking the tent, ripping the tent. We're trying to hold onto the tent, trying to hold onto everything that was outside. Everything just got ripped, slipped out. Somehow we made it through, really cold. The next morning I found out my backpack had slipped down the slope."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Yev Krasnitskiy, rescued climber:
"In the morning, everybody was hypothermic because it was really cold and the tent was really ripped. But the person with the mountain sickness was severely hypothermic. This is a route you can't downclimb. It's very difficult, it's very exposed to rock, avalanche, and there's just a lot of downclimbing and very steep terrain. So we didn't want to take him up because we were really worried about his condition deteriorating. So we found a reception in one spot on that ridge and call 911 and then relayed the message to the rangers and the rangers showed up within 10 minutes basically. We saw the helicopter. And they tried to swoop in and land but they just couldn't get in there because the wind was just blowing in that direction."

"We decided that we're going to try to go down to a spot where there was a little bit flatter so maybe they can bring a person in and maybe drop some supplies, pick up our sick person. So we went down there. They came in and they still could not get close enough. At one point he touched down but was immediately pulled off by the wind."

"And he showed us that he can't do it. So he's going to go down lower and that's where they dropped off the supplies. I found out today because we didn't know really what.. we didn't get them. They they dropped him off about 1,500 feet (457 metres) lower. We couldn't climb down there. This was the ice section that we were trying to avoid. Climbing up is one thing. Climbing down is five times worse."

"Yeah. that was incredible. It was like right the right moment where we I think most of us were like we can't keep going. We're going to but we're probably just going to lie down somewhere in that slope and that's going to be it. And they landed so that was amazing."

STORYLINE:
A helicopter crew has rescued four climbers from near the summit of Mount Rainier after they had been stranded on the Cascade Mountain peak in Washington for several days.
The climbers were suffering from exposure and were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the National Park Service said in a statement.
None had life-threatening injuries, a spokeswoman said.
Rescuers in the park's helicopter took advantage Thursday morning of a break in bad weather that had stymied earlier attempts to reach the climbers.
They were taken off the mountain in two groups and all were off the upper mountain just after 10 a.m. Thursday, officials said.
The climbers, who began their ascent on Friday, included Yevgeniy Krasnitskiy of Portland, Oregon; Vasily Aushev and Kostya "Constantine" Toporov of New York City; and Ruslan Khasbulatov of Jersey City, New Jersey.
Speaking from Seattle, Krasnitskiy said the group were rescued just at the right moment.
"I think most of us were like we can't keep going. We're going to but we're probably just going to lie down somewhere in that slope and that's going to be it. And they landed so that was amazing," he said.
The park had received a report Monday afternoon that the climbers needed help because wind blew away or destroyed a tent and some of their climbing equipment.
Krasnitskiy said everything got ripped and had slipped out.
"The next morning I found out my backpack had slipped down the slope."
A park helicopter crew located the climbers Monday on the Liberty Ridge route at 13,500 feet (4,115 meters).
After rescue attempts were thwarted by high winds Monday and Tuesday, park officials requested a U.S. Army Chinook helicopter and crew, which arrived Tuesday.
Both crews were unable to make the rescue until Thursday because of high winds, rain and cloud cover, park officials said.
The climbers were found about a half-mile away from the site where they had been seen Tuesday, and in a place much less affected by wind and more accessible for rescuers.
